1. Ask People You Know for Recommendations

More than 10 percent of the American population moves every year. As a result, there’s a good chance that you know at least a few family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, or casual acquaintances who have moved in recent months.

Reach out to them and ask about the experiences they had with the moving companies they hired to help them move. People are usually more than happy to share their thoughts on moving companies following a move.

After asking around, you might find that you hear the same one or two moving companies mentioned over and over again. This will make it much easier for you to find a mover quickly.

Moving tips2. Take a Look at Online Reviews

In the event that you somehow don’t know anyone who has moved recently, there are other ways to find out what people in your area think about the moving companies that operate in your city or town.

The easiest way is by turning to the internet for assistance. Most moving companies these days have a plethora of online reviews that feature their past customers ranting or raving about their services.

Check out as many online reviews as you can for moving companies that you’re considering working with. These reviews should shed some light on what specific companies are all about and how they do business.

Steer clear of any companies that consistently bring in bad reviews. It’s not uncommon for a moving company to get a negative review every now and then. But if almost every review you find has a negative slant to it, it’s an indication that a moving company might not be worth your time.

3. Browse Through Moving Companies’ Websites

Once you’ve sought out moving company recommendations from family and friends and consulted online reviews for movers, there should be a few moving companies in your area that look like they might be a good fit for you.

Visit each of their websites to get a better feel for the companies left on your list. By doing this, you’ll be able to find out how much experience companies have and how they first got their start.

You’ll also be able to learn about some of the services offered by moving companies. Some moving companies specialize in assisting people with local moves, while others focus more on helping those making long-distance moves.

Your goal should be to find a mover that offers the types of moving services you need. Whether you need a moving company to help you move across town, across the state, or across the country, there are companies qualified to deliver the services that will benefit you.

4. Ask Moving Companies the Right Questions

At this point, you should be ready to start reaching out to a few of the moving companies that look the best to you. When you do, be prepared to pepper them with a bunch of questions that will let you know whether or not they would be the right movers for you.

Here are some of the questions you can ask a moving company:

  • “Is your moving company licensed, insured, and bonded?”
  • “What can you tell me about the movers who work for your business?”
  • “Will your movers be able to handle every aspect of loading and unloading a moving truck?”
  • “What will you do if something gets broken or lost during my move?”
  • “What sets your moving company apart from all the rest?”

A good moving company will be happy to answer any and all questions you might have. They’ll show a real interest in providing you with the best possible answers and will go above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable with the idea of working with them.

5. See How Much Moving Companies Charge

Great moving companiesAt the end of the day, you should not choose a moving company based solely on how much they’re going to charge to help you move. If this is the only criteria you use when trying to find a mover, it’s going to get you into trouble.

At the same time, cost is going to be one of your concerns when moving. You obviously want to keep your moving costs to a minimum whenever possible.

Ask different moving companies to give you a quote for how much they’ll charge to assist you with your move. Additionally, ask them if there are any extra fees that you should know about ahead of time.

This should give you all the information you’ll need to select the right moving company to make your move.

  1. That’s a good idea to get multiple quotes from different companies. I feel like that would give you a good way to compare prices, as well as the quality of the moving company. I should make sure I use the quote as a way to evaluate the company as well if I decide to use movers for my next move.

  2. Thank you for the information, multiple quotes was maybe one of the best nuggets of information! Also I would have a set of verifying questions for them to see if they know what they’re doing. I mean, you trust them but need to verify.
