Moving long distance is one of the most stressful events that you can have in your life. A move to another state is even worse. You’re literally uprooting your life and into a brand new place to start over.

On average, you move about 11 times in your lifetime.

One way to make moving less stressful is to hire movers. You may think of this as an expensive thing to do, but you should know that you can save on nationwide movers. Here’s our expert tips.

Tip #1. Get Several Quotes

Another way to save money is to contact several nationwide movers before settling on the right one.

You do need to be aware that there are movers that will try to rip you off. There are also movers that are reasonably priced and offer excellent service.

You need to exercise a lot of caution when shopping for movers. You should know that if a quote comes in much lower than the others, it may be too good to be true.

Rather than shop around for a mover on your own, you’ll want to use a site that’s done the work for you. You can enter your information once, and get quotes from reputable movers right away.

If you really want to save money, you can lower the quote by choosing to pack everything yourself. You’ll buy your own supplies and do the packing yourself. The only potential problem with that is that if something breaks, you’ll be responsible since you packed it yourself.

Tip #2. Take What You Really Need

When you’ve lived in one space for a while, it’s really easy to collect things. The next thing you know, you have a lot of stuff.

The question then becomes whether or not you want to take all of that stuff with you. A lot of movers will charge you by weight and volume.

The more you can cut back and figure that you can replace in your new home, the more money you can save.

Moving also presents a great time to donate to local shops that can resell the items. It becomes a win-win situation.

Hiring Movers

Tip #3. Move During the Slow Season

The moving industry operates on supply and demand. When demand is high and there aren’t that many movers on staff on hand, prices go up.

On the other hand, when demand is low, rates are also low. You can take advantage of this fact by timing your move during the slow season.

Yes, it’s better to move when the weather is nicer, but it’s nicer on your wallet to move during the winter.

  1. When we were moving, we called on our family to help us move. my uncle and his family, and grandparents all came to help us move, saving us the cost of movers. Although, we did have to pay for the inevitable pizza party at the end of the day.

    • I don’t see a comment box so I’m just going to reply,

One way to save MONEY, is to hire family members for a reasonable, yet cheaper price. Another way is maybe to move with you and the mover if there isn’t a lot of things.

      • I just made a move and did it for under $300. Movers usually charge by the hour, so if you cut their time, you pay less! I packed all of my belongings into boxes and packed as many into my car as possible. The extra heavy and large ones I left down stairs so the movers had easy access to them and didn’t have to take the extra trip up and down in my house. the furniture I needed them to take, I dis assembled myself. some pieces, like a bed take longer as they’ll have to lengthen their time to take apart/keep safe your nice belongings. Lastly I did this in reverse at my new home, I reassembled myself, and just had them place the large furniture where it needed to be and I took care of the rest. Happy moving!

      • One of the best ways to get a good rate when moving, is making sure everything is ready. Have things in boxes, ready to go. This will save you time and money.

    • I think the best way to get the best price when moving is to separate the experience into 2 separate stages. The first being “what can I do for myself as well as with the help of friends/family?” I recommended sort of “Marie Kondo” ing your belongings to make sure you are only moving want you absolutely have to. After you have what you want to move, it is important that you pack your things in the most effect way possible. By being very organized, you can get the number of boxes you need down from say 20 to 15. This could be the difference between being able to transport your items and furniture yourself, or with the help of friends/family, and having to consult a moving company. This brings me to stage 2, having to use a moving company. The best possible scenario for saving money would be to not need a moving company. Well, what can you do to get the best price from a moving company if necessary? Well, first is to compare several different companies prices and services. Your research could save you hundreds. Additionally, I highly recommend reading reviews for the companies. Doing this could potentially save you time and money with lesser companies. Overall, to get the best price from a moving company, or moving experience in general, it is key to take your time and stay driven.

    • To achieve the best price for a moving company takes an abundance of your time and effort, but in the end, you will find the best company for the least amount of money. One resource you can use to find the proper moving company for you is http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move. It is a credited website that allows you to find great moving companies in your area and how much they charge. Furthermore, you can read past consumer reviews on the company and how their experience was.

    • When we moved we often would pack our own items. This was one major savings for our family. Aside from packing our own items, we often would try to get several quotes for different stages of the moving. My last move, we packing and hauled all the valuables. Once we completed that process we would then reach out to the moving company and that often reduced our cost because it took the liability off the movers in case something broke. We personally moved all the electronics and picture frames. Another major saving point was disassembling items for the moving company. Being kind to the moving company has also had some savings for us.

    • The cheapest way to move is buying taking what you need and packing the most in each box because the less boxes you have the more space you have in the movingntruck or in a uhaul.

    • I do not see a comment box so I am just going to reply.
I actually haven’t moved form my home since I was 2. I lived in an old brownstone in Crown Heights. I have no memory of the move, but I asked my mom and she told me that she saved money by having all her older boy cousins come and help her move things out. She also rented a U-Haul so she basically did everything by herself, with some help from family of course. She was young at the time so she didn’t have much to move. She is also highly organized so it made the moving process very easy. I think the most common answer would be get help from family and friends and to repay them with refreshments after :).

    • One way my family saved money when we were only moving for six months and going back to the same place, was by leaving some of our furniture we wouldn’t need with friends who would use it for the time we were gone. We didn’t have to move the furniture, and our friends got to use a piano, kayaks, and patio furniture for part of the year!

    • Moving always seems to be much easier for us when we first organize our home and then have a yard sale or haul off the things we don’t need. That makes packing up, and in turn, moving out so much easier.

    • When moving, start packing early! After my 8th move, I understood that having plenty of time showed me see what I truly did not need to keep. This downsized my moving load and allowed more space in my car for personal belongings and fragile items. I was able to leave larger items for the movers (like furniture) and have everything ready to go on time.

    • When we moved, the one way we saved the most money while also making money was just to sell everything we really didn’t need. It sounds easier said than done. However, when we rearranged everything and thought about what to really bring, we not only saved money, but we were also able to clean up and sell/donate old belongings. It actually benefited us when we moved in because we didn’t have to organize as many objects as well.

    • To save the most money when hiring a mover, always have a plan ready before the movers arrive. Once they do, play Tetris and try to fit as much as you can in one truck. Save the small stuff for your own car and only put big pieces like furniture or tv’s in a moving truck.

    • Easiest and cheapest way to move? Sell everything. If you don’t use it, get rid of it. Pack everything into one vehicle and go. Whatever does not fit, you sell or give away. That is a net profit right there, not only in money, but also in heartwarming charity.

    • First you have to find out the average cost of moving a household the size of yours across the distance you are moving, get as many estimates from several reputable movers. Having multiple estimates it will help you get a greater bargaining power. Then you should plan your negotiation strategy, ones you have the information you need you can start with asking for discounts, using companies competition to your advantage, ask if they have any special offers. Once you planned your negotiation strategy you are ready.

    • The easiest way to make moving long distance the cheapest I would say is ask family members for their help to pack things up and only take what you need. If its not needed give it away or throw it away, it leaves space for more important/valuable things. Also if needed borrow a trailer or truck from a family member to use to bring all your belongings where they need to be rather than rent a moving truck or ask for help from them of driving one of the vehicles if you don’t have enough drivers if possible. Maybe provide food or something for the help but this would make things a lot more cheaper.

  2. You can save money on movers by using uhaul to transport.

  3. You can save on movers by packing all of your own personal property. When I’ve moved, the movers added the cost of packing materials as part of the total price for moving my belongings. However, by packing it myself, I can save on the total cost! Usually an easy way to save money with regards to obtaining boxes for packing is to go to supermarkets or retail stores and ask the staff if they have any excess boxes. Rarely does a store not have these lying around in the back and the store giving them to you for free will save you from having to buy boxes at Wal-Mart, U-Haul, etc….and thus, save you from getting charged for boxes when the movers pack up your stuff!

  4. I save money on movers by obtaining my own boxes for packing up my belongings. Movers I’ve used in the past would charge for boxes as part of the materials cost for the move. So, I would go to a supermarket or a retail store like Best Buy or Walmart and ask the staff in the back of the store if I could have their excess boxes. They’d give them to me for free and I ended up saving myself from having to buy boxes, which ultimately reduces the total cost of my move because they movers won’t need to charge me for boxes!

  5. To save money while moving, it is important to move things i parts with your little car. loosen screws and nuts of detachable furniture and use your domestic car to move it.
Also, save boxes of items purchased. It would be very useful when moving.
Make friend with the boss or important workers in the company, you could get a very reasonable discount, if not free service. Cheers.

    • One way my family has saved money was to hire our family members and rent a moving truck.

  6. One way to save money when moving is to ASK FOR HELP. Should be pretty straight forward, but trying to move big items like TV’s or furniture by yourself can often lead to injury or damages. Having friends or family members assist can save on money that can result from that, and if no one is available, hiring a moving company can greatly reduce or eliminate the chance of injury or damages to property and possessions, since they have so much experience.

  7. I would ask around and find the best company that would have the cheapest price. Also, I would work with them to see if they charge extra to do certain things, such as charging extra for the amount of stairs they would have to go up. I would work out different solutions to bring the cost down.

  8. I save money on moving by checking differing transport sites such as haul and penske. Also getting multiple quotes are key!

  9. I moved four times in two years, and we used different movers every time. Best tip I have is to pack all you stuff up yourself. It takes more time, but it saves you money. You also know, or have some idea of at least, where everything is. My biggest frustration one move was some of my stuff not being done how I wanted. Packing your own stuff let’s you protect what’s important to you and package it in the safest way you can.

  10. I think that the best tip would be to make sure you shop around, and get estimates from many different companies. This way you can make sure you really find the lowest price, but you could also dig a little deeper with the companies by looking for any extra charges they may have. Extra charges for distance or labor and similar things.

  11. Moving is simple and not costly when getting friends or family to help along with the movers. In my experience with moving my mom only paid the movers for 1 hour. We were able to save money and get the job done due to our friends and family with trucks.

  12. Best tips have already been covered:
    1) reduce how much you need to move! Have yard sale, donate what’s left, etc. Only take what you actually need/use/want.
    2) provide your own supplies and pack your own things! You can usually get used boxes on free sites like rooster, nextdoor, craigslist, etc. You could also get them from department stores and friends who are done with them.
    3) get multiple quotes!
    4) read the reviews too— just because they are the cheapest, does not necessarily means they are good!

  13. A good tip to help save money when moving is to ask friends for help. Instead of having to hire a team of guys that will put a hole in your wallet, why not just get some buddies willing to help you. If you happen to need movers then make sure you have everything packed up and ready and just try to find the cheapest option.

  14. My besttips would be to move in the summer, May – September, is going to be roughly 20-30% more expensive. Moving at the end of the month, when renter’s leases turnover, usually is going to be more expensive due to increased demand. Weekend moves can also be pricier, just a rule of thumb. Also, if you’re getting quotes from a lot of different companies and services, it’s imperative sure to write everything down. A lot of people make the mistake of confusing which company offers what and then having unexpected costs. Also, try to get used boxes from liquor stores, groceries, etc. Stores are always throwing away boxes and use existing blankets, pillows as padding and cushion for packing boxes of breakables

  15. I get the BEST price for moving by first comparing my options then calling different companies and try to get them to be competitive in their rates. At the end of the day as long as they handle my possesions with care I will be happy1

  16. It is extremely important to not overextend one’s self financially at the time of a long distance move. Set a budget for the process, and make sure to keep track of all expenses in order to keep the move affordable. I would also recommend looking around the house for boxes that you already have. Most of the time you will find storage containers in places where you didn’t even realize you had them. This will drastically reduce the cost that you otherwise would have spent on new containers. I would recommend hiring a professional company to assist with the move in order to guarantee a successful job, but hire them for the moving part specifically. Ask neighbors, friends, or teenagers in the area, who want to work for a cheaper price than the expensive companies, to help pack all of your belongings so that the movers can easily transport the boxes into the truck and to the next destination.

  17. First, you should always go online and get a list of your local moving companies and check the reviews to see if they are trust worthy. Second, try to talk to a person who has used this company before and see how their experience and the price was for them. Lastly, compare and contrast different companies prices to each others to find the best fit for you.

  18. The best way to save money when hiring a mover would be to look around and evaluate your different options around you. See what price and services will benefit you more. Also look around and see if anyone else you know is moving as well to see if the movers you choose can make a special deal for the other person and yourself.

  19. The best way to save money when hiring movers would be to look around your area and compare the pricing and benefits of each mover. Also ask around and see if anyone else is moving and hire the mover together to see if a good deal could be negotiated.

  20. I save money when moving by reusing all old boxes and using containers I already own to transport my belongings. Not only does it save money but it also better for the environment!

    • In the case where you have family members who can help you move, you can save money and time by telling them on time to help you with with the packing so as to reduce the work load. But if you’re alone and you have a lot of stuffs to move the best way is to either auction some of the things you will probably not really need in your new home or donate them to charity to reduce cost of load and time wasting on moving things that you will only end up throwing as soon as you move to your new home .

  21. It’s important to be prepared when getting your quote. Know what you have, what you need moved and how far you are going. The more accurate you are means that the company can have a better understanding of what your needs are. Also, ask questions. Ask what any extra costs might be, how many people will be helping with your move and if they have liability insurance.

  22. Ask around to see who friends or relatives used. Many times moving companies have friends & family or referral discounts!

  23. The best way to keep the cost of moving down is to make sure you’re doing what you can by yourself. If you have a truck or trailer, or any vehicle that can transport a majority of your things, then do it yourself! Call up friends and family members to help you load the items and borrowing unused boxes from local businesses can prevent you from having to pay much for them.

  24. If I could offer any advice, it would be to plan ahead. Every move is different, and every mover is different. Sometimes it is best to pack your own items, sometimes having extra help to pack is necessary. One time, we had to move half of our belongings to a new home, while the other half of our items went into storage. This move took enormous logistical planning. Whatever the circumstances, planning ahead will minimize costs and reduce the stress and strain of moving.

  25. Growing up with my father in the military and now being a military spouse, I have moved A LOT in my life. It is so important to declutter before you move. It’s stressful having to unload and find a new place for unnecessary items. Finding family or friends to help out over a weekend is one of the best things you can do. It costs so much extra if the moving company packs up your stuff. You can buy boxes from a store or ask around and see if anyone you know has extras. Do not go with the cheapest movers you can find if they’re not reputable. This could result in some broken furniture and end up costing you more than if you hired someone more expensive.

  26. There are many different resources and websites out there to help you compare moving prices. Take advantage of this. Furthermore, know what your needs are and see which moving company can meet your needs at a resonable price. If its possible, schedule your move when moving services are in low demand. I have also learned from personal expereince that you need to declutter as much as possible when you’re preparing to move! Get rid of that bulky bean bag no one uses, and save space in the truck. That way, you don’t have to pay for a huge truck to haul your belongings, and save money on time and labor. Get rid of the access, unecessary stuff you’ve collected over the years.

  27. There are of course many ways to save money when hiring a moving company. The most important tip I can give is to ask around. Friends and family can be some of your most important resources in saving money. People in general don’t want to overpay and want good service. Also I have found that it is important to know what you’re paying for. There appear to be 3 kinds of moving contracts: binding estimate, non-binding estimate and a non-binding to exceed estimate. Make sure you get a “binding estimate” so you know what is included in the moving services. This way you will get a guaranteed price and get everything in writing that you agree to. My final tip would be to pack your belongings yourself if possible. This will save you the most money!

  28. Best tips I have for saving money on moving is go to wear house stores or liqueur stores to collect boxes for packing your own stuff, buy tissue for packing at the dollar store and plan your move for a week day not weekend.

  29. One way to save on movers is definitely gathering all friends and family who are able to assist you and then determine whether any extra movers are needed. Most of the time, people are able to move by gathering friends and family and renting a uhaul for the day. If movers are needed, then definitely do your research before committing to one is the best advice.

  30. One of the best ways to save money when hiring a mover is shopping around. another is doing most or all of the work yourself. make sure everything is packed up and you take any boxes that can be transported on your own, this will eliminate the labor costs and time of the move.

  31. Save money on movers by making sure to interview good companies and go with your gut. Paying more will many times give you a better experience and better quality workers.

  32. Best tip when hiring a m over, is checking if the mover/company’s reviews, to see how past customer felt about the experience

  33. I save money on movers by reaching out to friends and family to help.

  34. The best way to save money while moving is to do as much as you can possibly do without the help of a mover. If you can sell many of your items in a yard sale, that would be ideal so you have less to pack. In addition, if you pack all of your boxes prior to having the movers come that is also very helpful. You can even ask for the help from friends and family members!

  35. When we moved houses, my family saved money by asking our families and friends to help us move furniture. We also rented a U-Haul to transfer our things by ourselves.

  36. A way to save money when hiring a mover is to pack up your belongings in a number of bags that can be transported to your new location in a single trip

  37. A great way to save money is to get your own packing materials and pack up what you can. A friend ours had recently moved and gave us a ton of boxes for our move which helped us save a lot.

  38. The best way to save money when hiring a mover is to check as many websites as possible to compare the price. Maybe the review from this company is better than others. This way you can hire a mover to help you and without paying too much money.

  39. The earlier you start, the more time you’ll have to gather cheap or free moving supplies. You’ll also have more time to get rid of things you don’t need to move. Many expenses during the moving process come from last minute purchases due to unpreparedness.

  40. You can save money on moving by hiring college students to help you move furniture rather than professionals, as college students will be cheaper to hire.

  41. Let them know exactly what you want to move! Sometimes, if you explain well, moving companies will see that you may not need as long an amount of time or as much space in the moving truck than you expected.

  42. Here are a few unique tips of how to save money when moving:
    1) Pack your belongs yourself, and use towels as packing material. You can also use socks for small things.
    2) Look for multiple quotas and use coupons. Also, ask about fees and see whether the company potentially does price matching.
    3) Try and move in the middle of the week, many people do not move at that time so the price may be lower.
    4) When moving, keep the most important things (do not hang on things you do not need) and sell the rest on online platforms or have a good old yard sale.
    5) Also, sell the boxes when you have completed your moving process.

  43. To save money when moving I suggest asking family members or friends to help move. I asked my sisters brothers and parents to help us move and while I offered money most family members and friends are just happy to help!:)

  44. The best ways to save money are to use newspapers, such as green sheets or asking neighbors/friends for the newspaper to save money on packing material. You can also storage the boxes that were used for moving in case you have to move again. That way you don’t have to spend money on boxes. You can also use shirts as packing cushion material, for example, fragile items, such as using the shirts to wrap plates/dishes. Also, you can save by using socks to wrap your cups/glassware instead of spending money on bubble wrap and packing foam. You can stuff items inside other items to make more space for other items and have additional boxes left over. For example, putting socks/underwear inside shoes or seasonings inside pot and pans. Having space saves money on buying boxes and faster time for movers to move your things.

  45. First you need to know that if you are doing a local move (less than 100 miles), the company will charge you per hour. If you are doing a long-distance move (more than 100 miles), they will charge you based on either weight (pounds) or volume (cubic feet). You also need to be aware that if the company is packing for you, they will charge you according to the supplies and the time it takes them. Materials aren’t included in the estimate. Also, “stair carries” (# of flights, steps, turns) can add to cost. Liability and validation coverage are the types of protection that can add up. Get quotes from at least 3 companies. Check the reviews of companies by looking at FMCSA.gov and the BBB websites.

  46. You can save money on movers by moving all the little things in your own car. Get an Uhaul and make sure while moving to throw the things you will not need. Also, make sure to box your stuffs by yourself with the help of your family or friends.

  47. You can save money on movers by taking all of your little things in your own car with you. Get an uhaul and make sure to throw all the things you will not need. Also, when packing make sure to get help from your family or friends.

  48. There are so many ways to save money while moving, being a full time college student I am constantly moving from school to back home and I have learned the best way to handle a move is to have as much hands as possible with the help of your family and friends! There is also student discounts offered at certain uhaul’s for students which has been very helpful and I know I have personally benefited from it in the past. Also, since for college, you know when you will be moving home it is very helpful to move a little bit at a time. So I will slowly bring my stuff home during different breaks. During thanksgiving break I bring home things I don’t need, winter break I bring home my holiday things and then spring break I bring home all the cold weather clothes I no longer need! Moving is a big part of college and there are definitely a bunch of little tricks you can do to help!

  49. Being a college student and living on campus, I am constantly moving back and forth. That being said I have learned a lot of things about moving! The first of which is having help is key, friends and family can be a huge help! Especially if they have an extra car to help move things. There are also a lot of discounts students can get from different moving companies to help, I know specifically Uhaul offers great discounts that I have personally used myself. Also, in college, you know when you will having to be moving. That being said, you are able to move your things little by little when you go home for different breaks. So for thanksgiving I bring home anything I don’t need, winter break I bring home all my holiday things, and spring break I bring home all of my winter clothes. All of these things have been very effective for me and I hope it’ll be helpful for someone else!

  50. One of the best ways to get the best price and highest quality moving company is to ask for recommendations within your community. Personal experiences can help guide you to the best company. Always get 3 quotes, and if the company you choose is not the least expensive of the three, ask if they can match the cost of the other movers. Always clear out excess or unwanted items, as there is no need to transport these items to your new home. And, unless the company does not allow or you do not feel comfortable doing this, you can pack boxes yourself, especially things that are not fragile, prior to the arrival of the moving truck.

  51. One tip on how to save money when moving is to ask for friends and family to help instead of movers. My aunt recently moved, and she asked several family members, including my sister, parents, and I, to help her. Her parents also helped, as well as neighbors and some of her friends and their kids. With the amount of help she had, as well as vehicles to help transport her belongings, she was able to save a great deal of money.

  52. The BEST way to save money when moving is to 1. Begin by moving as much stuff as you can on your own, reach out to a family or friend(s) who have one or many large vehicles, pile in as much stuff as you can, while still being able to drive safely your self. 2.Through completing #1 there should only be left the large items that you can not fit into your own for a friends vehicle to move, this will reduce greatly how much you are paying the movers to move. 3. compare rates to other companies, check to see how they charge (hourly, by truck, man power, or items) 4. Before moving go through your belongings and get rid of or donate anything that you don’t want or need anymore, don’t pay to have items you don’t want moved. Finally 5. Don’t go for big corporate companies, they don’t care for customer service and are more likely to over charge you. By choosing a local small business company you are betters your city or town by reinvesting in it and you are more likely to be able to negotiate or get a deal in the future.

  53. Moving does not have to be expensive. To save as much money as possible it is important when hiring a mover find the most affordable movers and read as many reviews of the mover’s services that way you know your valuables will be safe and intact when transporting them to your new home.

  54. When I was moving from Georgia to Wisconsin, in order to save money on movers, we received help from friends and family to move my objects. I am still grateful to this day for my friends and family offering to help with such a long distance move.

    • I am moving soon and was able to research the process through FindMoversNow and other websites. The main tips are to 1. pack only the things you need into boxes you obtain yourself before the movers come 2. use websites that are able to gather quotes for you instead of calling shady businesses for them individually 3. have the items the movers are using near the door so it’s easily accessible and minimizes their time and fees!

      Thank you for this opportunity.

  55. The best tips that I would suggest that would help save money while moving, is to pack light because, the more items you bring the more charges that are associated. Also, this gives you a chance to give or throw away any unnecessary items that may be brought to the new house/apartment. Another tip would be comparing moving services because, all moving companies are unique in their own way, including their prices, so having a pen and paper and listing qualities/ quantities regarding each service could narrow down your preference.

  56. You could save money by asking friends and family for help moving, you could donate things you don’t need. It would be ideal to pack small essential items with you when you move to a new location instead of having the movers move it. If you do hire movers you should pack all your boxes prior to them coming which would save time and be helpful. Also double check expenses and costs and compare them with other moving companies, to find a cheaper price and/or check if you aren’t being charged more.

  57. if you are moving definitely you will need help …and who can do it better than professionals. You have no headache, they will handle with care your stuff and you don’t have to worry that something will brake. They are there for you for the heavy lifting. And if the price if whats worrying you , consider that they are doing a hard job, and that you are not spending every day on moving but once in a long time. And that’s another side to it , if you ask to family and friends you will owe one to them to , so you have to help them when they move doing the heavy lifting for them , but with movers you are headache free is a one time open ended transaction.
So consider it when you are going to move is one of you best choices , headache free, fast and they handle with care your stuff.

  58. When it comes to moving you definitely need someone to do the heavy lifting , someone to handle your stuff with care. And who can help you better than movers. Of course you might say family and friends, but of course they are going to ask you the same favor in the future so are you willing to do the heavy lifting for them , and are you going to be that careful so you don’t break that vase when moving. So movers comes to you with the best service one time payment and headache free. And consider these when it comes to a point when you think oh is expensive , they are doing a hard job and you are moving once or twice in a lifetime , is a one time cost not a cost that you are going to do every time. So be headache free and hire movers, its going to make your life easier.

  59. Staying organized during a move is so important. During the last move I made I had color coded stickers for each room of my house that I would put on the outside of my boxes. It made unpacking everything so much easier!

  60. The best way to save money while moving is to do it yourself.

  61. I’d say a good way to get the best price from a moving company is to try to get them to match or compete with the price of another company, and be persistent.

  62. I’d say a good way to get the best price from a moving company is to try to get them to match or compete with the price of another company, and be persistent

  63. The best tip for moving is proper planning. Plan out every detail the best you can. The first step in planning is creating a budget in order to be able to finance your plan. Once a budget is established you can determine how you are going to move. You can do it all yourself, you can hire a company to do everything, or you can have a mix of partial work between doing it yourself and a moving company. Once you plan out if you are hiring a moving company then you need to plan out what all from your home is moving with you. I have moved over half a dozen times do to my Marine Corps service and every move I realize I have plenty of items to either sell, or donate to charity. Once you have these other details planned out next you need to plan out dates and times to make the deadlines of your move. Proper planning when moving is a necessity that can not be replaced.

  64. Just because someone quotes you the “best” price, doesn’t mean it’s actually a good deal. I recently learned this the hard way. I went on Yelp.com and got ~ 10 quotes. I took the lowest price, but I ended up paying more for moving supplies than actual labor! You should always ask for two quotes: one for labor and one for supplies. This way you won’t get ripped off!

  65. The best way to get the best price on a moving company is to shop around and do your research. Make sure to check the companies reviews and pricing before making a decision. You can also ask relative and friends to help you move and make sure to pack everything beforehand to avoid any fees or extra charges.

  66. I save money by asking for student discount, sometimes moving companies would have collaboration with universities to help students moving in/out of dorms. It is also a stable business strategy that comes with steady cash flow for moving companies. Same can be applied to industries other than school, such as apartment management office, retail companies etc.

  67. One way my family members save money is to hire each other for a low, yet reasonable price.

(I don’t know where my comment went)

  68. Don’t be shy to ask for help(friends, local teens, family) and afraid of what other people might think! Recently when I moved, my mom used cereal boxes, grocery bags, cardboard boxes from the recycling bin, old food containers, etc, every little thing comes in handy, and at the end of the day, it is all about saving money(you really save a couple of bucks). Besides, if people make fun of you for moving, just know that it’s temporary, keep positive.

  69. The best way to save money on movers is to ask friends and family for help first. If they can’t help, compare prices of multiple movers and compare to find the best price.

  70. The best way to save money is to ask friends and family for help first. If they can’t help, its best to then just find multiple movers and compare prices.

  71. The best way to save money while moving is to take the time to learn about the business. There are many businesses out there that offer similar services. Luckily in 2020 we have the internet. Through the internet figure out which company suites you and your families financial needs. Don’t break the bank when moving, save the money for the new place you get to call home!

  72. Just ask. A lot of people have gone through the same thing and they’re understanding. Ask for help and they’ll do their best to make the transition easy.

  73. In order to save money while moving, doing as much as you can by yourself or with the help of family members and friends is key. Most of the time the people that are closest to you want to help you and seek nothing in return in terms of money. This is kind of a double win because you get to move for cheaper while also getting to spend some time with your friends or family.

  74. Make sure you try your best to reduce your load by clearing our the stuff that you no longer want anymore because the more stuff the bigger heartache.

  75. How to get the best price from moving company? The best way to get the best price from a moving company is to contract out the companies truck. You utilize friend and family to pack and move your items. You save on labor and moving fees.

  76. The best way to save money while moving is to get as much of your close family that will help for no cost. Then, if you still need help, compare different quotes and decide which is the best.

  77. Organize your belongings into “must take” an “maybe we don’t take” piles. You could even go full Marie Kondo–only pack the things that bring you joy! Lightening the load will save you money in the long run. What you don’t take you can sell or donate!
You can also ask local grocery or liquor stores for free boxes! Every bit saved counts!
But most importantly–do you research and READ REVIEWS! Some moving companies are cheaper but can’t ensure your things will always arrive in one piece. Other places are the complete opposite. Really dig into those reviews to get the best bang for your buck.

  78. The best way to get the best price in my opinion is to first shop around and compare quotes then use those quotes to choose what services you actually need. For example, if you only need the company to move big items and things you can’t transport yourself, do that. There’s no need to spend extra money having a company pack up your whole house when you can get family and friends to help.

  79. One way to save on long distance moving is to box your items yourself. Paying for the company to box your items does give you some insurance things won’t get broken, but it cost you a pretty penny. When we moved from Washington to Dallas, we took a lot of time to carefully wrap all glass items and pictures. This saved us hundreds.

  80. A good tip for new movers is reducing the need for smaller boxes and use bigger ones to get everything out easier. Some movers do charge by the hour so the easier the job is, the more money you save.

  81. With the help of friends and family, you can start moving small boxes gradually. Ask around for a moving company that offer good services to its customers and negotiate prices with them. Keep the moving company informed of your move-in date at any time so that they can plan properly.

  82. One good tip for anybody trying to get the best price they could from a mover is to try and move as much as you can yourself. When you have lots of smaller items that you can easily move yourself in your own vehicle, Then you can save a ton of money. Personally, my family tries to save as much money as we can so when we moved we did a lot of moving small items an boxes ourselves. The less the movers have to take and move, the more money you can keep in your pocket.

  83. Tip for saving on moving: Get three quotes from three different moving companies. Then pick the one that offers the most value. Not necessarily the cheapest one but the one that’ll do the most for their money. Good movers are worth their weight in gold!

  84. A tip for saving some money on moving would be to book early! By scheduling well-ahead of the date you plan to move, you can avoid last-minute booking fees. Booking well in advance also allows you to find out what days/times to move may be cheaper than others.

  85. Tip: Move during winter months or “slower” seasons. This will have a high effect on the price of moving due to the fact that “slower” seasons have lesser demand and in turn makes the price of moving cheaper.

  86. Unpack a box to find useless clutter. Go to hang up your clothes and realize you never even wear half of this apparel. When people move, they get to their new house and they think “new house, new things!” They start purging a whole bunch of their old belongings because the objects either do not fit with the aesthetic or size of the new home or because they are suddenly going through things for the first time in forever as they unpack. The trick to saving money while in the process of moving is to go through and get rid of these items BEFORE you move so you don’t have to move as many boxes. This can be easily done if you pack the boxes yourself because you’re going through it all anyways. This brings us to a second major cost-saver, pack the boxes yourself! All the supplies you need are at your local Home Depot or Lowe’s. If you do it yourself, you can also be absolutely certain they were packed properly and to your standards.

  87. One way is to offer them an incentive of food that they will die for. Also, to have family and friends help out to make the job go faster. Who can deny home cooked food?!

  88. One tip for saving money when hiring a mover is comparing prices to see how much you can save if you choose to move on a week day instead of the weekend.

  89. Pack the smaller things in your own vehicle to save yourself a few bucks you’ll have to drive to the new place yourself anyways may as well take a load with you.

  90. Save Money by doing as much packing yourself as you can! Use clothing to cushion dishes and breakables instead of papers

  91. Speaking from experience from when I moved out for the summer, the best way to be cost efficient and save money on moving is to compare the prices for various companies in your area to get the best rates.

  92. Depending on the proximity of the move and the moving company, tips may vary in accuracy. Some movers will charge “last-minute” fees for booking the services too close to the moving date. To avoid this, schedule a moving date well in advance and book the movers then! Along with this, many movers appreciate the customers that are able to be flexible with their moving times and dates. Some movers may even lower their quoted prices, especially if they ask for a change in date or time. Large items and heavy loads may end in fees and higher moving prices, so it would be wise to ask friends or family to help move what you can before hand. Sell anything that you do not need in the move. Pack your belongings yourself! Movers can be pricey if they are asked to pack your items as well. Remember, it does not hurt to try to negotiate. While it may not always help, some movers may find your logic reasonable and drop the price for you.

  93. Tip for saving: Move during the slow months (generally the winter), pack your own boxes to avoid extra fees for packing services, move heavy or large objects yourself or with the help of family and friends, book early to avoid last-minute fees, have a flexible schedule because movers may decrease their quoted price for allowing changes in the schedule, compare companies before committing to one mover, only take the items you truly need at the new place, and remember that negotiating won’t hurt, even if it does not help.

  94. A good way to save money while moving is taking large furniture apart and fitting as much in your car as you can, this way you can save on a trailer by getting a smaller one.

  95. I worked as a receptionist at a moving service for a while, so I would field a lot of questions on how to save money and cut down the cost of a move. A smart way to save while moving is getting multiple quotes. Different companies have different rates, however try to choose companies that offer free estimates. Paying for an estimate may not seem like a lot, but if you’re shopping around, it can add up. Packing and moving things yourself can bring down the cost as well, and just have the professionals handle the large/bulky or fragile items. This is important because most estimates are given based on the size truck the company will need. If they need a smaller truck for only furniture pieces, your cost will come down.

  96. I worked as a receptionist at a moving service for a while, so I fielded a lot of questions about how to lower the cost of a move. Getting multiple quotes is a good way to do your move for less. However, find companies that offer a free estimate. It may only seem like a small fee, but if you are shopping around, the fees can add up. Packing your personal items yourself can also help bring down the cost. Companies usually offer packing, but it comes at a price. Let the professionals handle the large/bulky items and pack as much as you can yourself. Additionally, only take the essentials. Cleaning out unused clothes and items can decrease the amount that you will be taking. Most companies make estimates based on the size of the truck they will need. A smaller truck means a smaller price. Many moving companies are partnered with non-profits (like moveforhunger.org) that will donate your non-perishable food items, so you don’t have to take them with you.

  97. The best way to save money is to shop around, be prepared by pre-packaging items, and taking what you need.

    • The best way to get a price from a moving company is to communicate with them and be straightforward with what you want. Present the necessary things you would like to move from your home and talk through the possible deals they can offer you. Make sure you look at all the policies your desired company offers and even present information of how cheaper or more expensive other moving companies are in order to sort out a price both you and the company representative can be satisfied with.

    • in my personal opinion I believe the best way to save money when you move is to re-use old boxes and if you don’t have any go online and either buy or find a company that packages and ships for you.

  98. A tip to help save money in the moving process is to saving boxes so you can reuse them, then when you do start your move put any smaller boxes in cars, bigger boxes and objects in trucks/vans, then only rent an u-haul for a day to move furniture with the help of family and or friends.

  99. Get boxes from work or ask companies like lowe’s harris teeter or even dollar tree for their boxes after they get a new shipment to help save on boxes.

  100. One really overlooked way to save money on moving is to leave items behind. By donating or selling large items that can be cheaply replaced, you can save on moving costs. Examples include cheap mattresses, since they only last a few years, and desks because they can be found in any thrift store. Really consider the cost of moving each item and decide if it is worth it.

  101. You can save money by offering to pay movers in the form of furniture or nice high-quality belongings you can’t take with you

  102. I think the best way to get the best price from a moving company is to look at it from two separate stages. The first being “what can I do for my self and/or with the help of friends and family?” Before moving, it would be smart to go through and sort of “Marie Kondo” your belongings. This way you are not hauling around things you do not need. Now when it’s time to pack up your items, this needs to be done as efficient as possible. By being very organized, you could get your number of boxes down from 20 to say 15. This little bit could be the difference from being able to bring your belongings and furniture in your car, or friend’s/family’s car, and having to search for the best priced movers. The best possible scenario would be to not have to move into stage 2, consulting moving companies. However, what would this stage 2 look like in order to get the best price from a moving company? Well, it is very important that you consider several different companies. Instead of choosing the first company you find on Google, researching could save you hundreds of dollars. All reviews and be a researcher’s best friend. I would highly recommend hearing others’ point of views on their experiences. Overall, to get the best price from a moving company, or moving in general, you need to be ready to put the time in and stay focused.

  103. Compare prices and do research about the company you’re moving with. Saving money is important, but something too cheap could turn out be too good to be true. When in doubt, family can help. Pay a reasonable price based on how far you’re going and how much you’re moving.

  104. You can save money by comparing costs of different companies. You can also get discounts on certain sites like Groupon for certain companies. Another way to save money is by saving time since they charge by the hour! You can save time by packing your own boxes and having them organized and ready to be taken out of the house. This will significantly decrease the time they spend loading your belongings.

  105. One tip I have to save money while hiring movers is to make sure to use boxes you have laying around. Another way to get boxes is to go to different stores to get free merchandise boxes that were going to get tossed anyway. Some good places to go and ask are liquor stores, BJs, Costco, Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, Home Depot and etc. There are many stores that have boxes and just asking around you’ll probably get a million boxes without even trying haha. Of coarse a mini tip is to pack everything yourself securely and if possible move it as close to the entrance of your apt/house so moving boxes to the truck is as hassle free as possible and is quicker, which if you’re renting by the hour saves a lot. Another tip I have to if you really would like to save your coin is to even hire people around you such as your cousins, siblings, friends or anyone around you really, that is willing to help you out for some cash especially if they already have access or own a truck or vehicle that can accommodate your things. If not you have rent a truck for the best deal you find and after the move especially if its far move they can drive it back.

  107. Uhaul has been a valuable resource: they have reasonable storage units and will buy back unused boxes!

  108. If you wanna save money when hiring a mover,
make sure they have a good reputation, cuz the little guys might seem cheap at first but in the end they will charge you alot and damage your stuff.

  109. Decide where to put your furniture before it gets to your home, so that you can see if you have any unnecessary furnishings. By not moving what you don’t need, you not only reduce the cost of moving, but you offset it even more by selling your unnecessary furniture.

  110. I think if you’re in a situation where you have to hire movers, being flexible could be the best way to save money. If you live somewhere that has a cold season, the movers might have a lower price then, because a lot of people prefer to move when it’s a little warmer out. Having flexibility between weekdays and weekends could also save money.

  111. I think that being flexible about the time of year you move, if you live somewhere with a cold season, could be a big way to save money. A lot of people like to move when the weather is nicer and warmer, so the cost is probably at its height then. I think being flexible about a weekday versus a weekend day could also help save money.

  112. The best way to save money on moving is to get multiple quotes and compare the fine print, know what you are getting.

  113. The easiest way to save money when moving is having everything packed before the movers arrive since many charge by the hour. Saves them time and headache, saves your pocket book.

  114. Saving money on moving can include having friends and family help out. Good karma!

  115. A great way to save money on movers is to really think about what you need to bring, and slim down the things you dont. Pack up everything yourself and as you do let go of what you no longer want or need, move what you can on your own and shop around for movers. Get quotes from multiple, and dont forget to ask around and read reviews!

  116. When moving from one place to another, the best way to save money is organize all your items into boxes or trash bags with labels and package all your belongings up. You do NOT have to purchase bins or anything fancy because you are only moving and you won’t really need the bins afterwards. Next you’ll want to ask family members with large trucks so you can place your items in their car as you travel from one place to another. Then if you have any large items like furniture or dresses, etc you can rent a truck from a moving company to help you transport things. You can also save money by actually selling things before you leave so there is less things to pack and you are getting money to pay for your travels. Also then you’ll save time later on in the future because you won’t have to trash those items or find a place for them in your house / apartment. The last thing that you can do to save money is pick a time / date where you can get a cheaper price. Times like the summer and weekends are some of the busiest times so if you can try to plan a move in during the week and during fall, winter, or spring.

  117. The best way to get a price from a moving company is to communicate with them and be straightforward with what you want. Present the necessary things you would like to move from your home and talk through the possible deals they can offer you. Make sure you look at all the policies your desired company offers and even present information of how cheaper or more expensive other moving companies are in order to sort out a price both you and the company representative can be satisfied with.

  118. A great way of saving money when moving is explore all of your options, plan everything out, and start preparing early so you have time to pick the best deal and shop around!

  119. Hello Ma’am/Sir, a tip on saving money on movers would be to compare pricing in renting your own moving truck, pack and load your own belongings along with family/friends for one trip between previous and current residences and return moving truck back at designated time if not an earlier time.

  120. The 1st thing you want to do is, clear the clutter! Get rid of everything you no longer need or want. Have a garage/yard sale and save those funds for your move. Then pack up your stuff on your own. Next, you need to do some research! Go onto a search engine, such as Find Movers Now, and search for the best and the least expensive company. Once you have made your choice, call the company and ask for discounts, promotions, and special offers. You’ll know if the movers offer any discounts or special deals from their websites, but it’s worth explicitly asking for a discount. Finally, have a moving party and invite some friends and family over that are willing to help you carry the larger items into the truck for some pizza and beer.

  121. Call different companies and look for the cheapest price. Do all the thinking (and most of the work) for the moving company, and make their job as easy as possible. Box up all your items, organize them, and put labels on each box so all the movers have to do is move them from the truck to the new site.

  122. The very best way to save when moving really isn’t just one way. I encourage you go do your research online prior to hiring a mover, and look for referrals and rantings.I also suggest getting multiple quotes and comparing apples to apples. My final thought is that you negotiate the suggested cost. My guess is most companies will cut you a break. Maybe an active or retired member of the military. Or maybe you are, yes…a student. You don’t get what you don’t ask for!

  123. You can save money when hiring a mover by having your friends and family help move most of the smaller items, and only use the movers for big furniture. This will save money because you’ll be able to rent a smaller van and only have the movers help you with what you need their help with.

  124. When my family of 5 moved over 1,100 miles away from our home town we loaded up our 2003 mini van with essential items with one driver and had a 1987 toyota camry filled with 3 kiddos (4 and under) with one adult. Both cars were filled to the brim, we made one stop to sleep and drove the rest all the way through. We sold everything and started from scratch. The best decision ever!

  125. My family has moved multiple times since I was born. We moved once due to needing a bigger home for family size and once due to a change in school districts. The best way to save money when moving is to downsize when necessary. Also, be aware of extra costs because movers often charge more for moving large items. In order to save money from this, pack items yourself, that way you can avoid a packing fee and create a peaceful state of mind when everything seems hectic.

  126. As someone that has moved over 15 times before I was 20, I know the best way is to take the time to organize and go through belongings before hiring movers. Before hiring a mover, go through and organize your personal belongings. Getting organized and having things lined up for the movers makes their jobs faster and more efficient. Also doing research on the movers and learning about their company and reviews helps verify they are professional and efficient. Already having the time consuming organization and piles ready for the movers not only saves time with the moving process, but it also saves money.

  127. A tip for saving money when hiring a mover is to research and read reviews on movers in your area. Sometimes it’s better to pay a little more to hire a company with a good reputation. After all, there’s nothing more costly then replacing damaged belongings.

  128. After many moves over my life in the Army I found a few ways to save money on a move. The biggest is to have all the packing supplies purchased so you don’t have to buy them from the movers. Also thing like washer, driers and refrigerators can be sold on ebay or cregslist then bought for about the same price used your new location.

  129. Plan ahead and consolidate your belongings in boxes a day or two in advance.

  130. I recently moved out of my apartment and I suggested to my mover, I can help him. We became friends during the move and bill told me that if i didn’t help it would have cost me 50% more. He explained his rationale: to save money on moving, make the work easy for the movers to reduce their hours. Move all furniture and items outside or to your foyer. While moving participate in helping them. This will keep them accountable and motivated and reduce the amount of time on the job by increasing efficiency.

  131. One way to save money while moving is to ask friends and family for help, they may have big trucks or trailers to help move items and to be the helping hands to do the heavy lifting too.

  132. One way to save money while moving long distances is to sell unnecessary items that you do not really need or can be easily replaced so you can use less money on the transportation of those items.

  133. Time is precious and to most time is money, movers help out a lot with time, which in a way saves people money or aka opportunity cost

  134. The best way to save money when moving would be to do your research. Don’t always go with the first company you come across. When moving into a college dorm for the first time, especially if it’s far from home, my best suggestion is to find the nearest Walmart/Target/everything store to your campus and then buy most of your dorm essentials and accessories there instead of trying to travel with them.

  135. As a college student, I’m on a pretty tight budget, so when it came time to move apartments, I knew I’d need to be smart about who I hired to help me. I requested quotes from about 10 different moving companies and price compared them all to see where I could get the best deal. I also opted to pack all of my own things so I could avoid the up charge involved in paying to have your things packed for you. Lastly, anything that I could move myself, I did. That way the movers had fewer things to load up and therefore spending less time on the overall moving process, making the end price cheaper.

  136. As a college student, I am working on a pretty tight budget, so when it came time for me to move apartments, I knew I’d need to be smart about who I hired to help. I sent out quote requests to about 10 different moving companies and used those to price compare and chose the most cost effective movers. I also made sure to pack all of my own things, to avoid the up-charge involved in having your goods packed for you. To avoid having to buy boxes, I used suitcases, bags and anything else I had to pack, and then used boxes from my work to cover the rest. Another money saving tool I used was moving anything I could on my own, so that when the movers came they would be spending less time moving my things, therefore making the end bill cheaper.

  137. One way to save money when moving is to participate in the moving yourself with the movers. If they are working on an hour basis, you are saving some money by making sure it gets done faster, but you are also helping out with the economy because you are still contributing to the movers.

  138. Do plenty of research! Comparing companies rates and asking for special promotions is the best way to save money! Being flexible on your moving day is important too!

  139. As a current mover at Two Men and a Truck out of Akron OH, the best way to get the best deal is to provide the moving company with a detailed itemized list so they can provide you with the right amount of movers and trucks. It is also best if you pack your stuff yourself, it saves a lot of money.

  140. Just like any other business, moving companies are in a competitive market. Whether it comes to pricing, the size of their moving trucks or how many movers they are willing to offer. In my families experience we have always found it best to shop around first, narrow down our choices by reviews, then try to negotiate by offering a lower payment to the companies we have narrowed down. Some moving companies are willing to give you some wiggle room when it comes to pricing using a flat rate especially during the slower months of their business. However if you’re considering a company with an hourly rate your best option would probably be selling unnecessary items that have just been sitting in your home (Ex. garage sale, offer up, etc) and packing your own items so that way the movers only have to grab and go. A little tip I was offered on one of my moving experiences was to ensure that the movers have an easy access parking area to your home so that way they are not having to deal with obstacles when trying to walk your items to their truck especially large furniture which we all know is a hassle in itself.

  141. Ask your friends and family about which movers they have used, and whether or not it was worth the price. And box everything up yourself! That way, you’re not paying for as many hours of labor.

  142. I believe that a great way to save money when hiring movers, while helping your own community, is to find a couple of teenagers, accompanied with some adults for heavy weight objects, to do the job. It is a great way to put some money in their pockets as they are looking to save up and/or grow up and start getting an income of their own.

  143. I save money by getting as much help as possible when moving. It’s convenient to know someone with a truck. For the sake of gas, we load the truck as much as possible to make fewer trips.

  144. The best way to get a best price from a moving company involves a series of steps. First, don’t wait until last minute to organize your belongings. That way you can get rid of what you will not need in the new place and have a clear inventory of what you will be moving. This will help the moving companies give you a better quote if they know exactly what you will be needing. Second, don’t wait until last minute to do your research and book a mover. Booking in advance might offer better quotes. Research and read reviews to try to get the best movers and try to book them as far in advance as you can. Lastly, prepare for the move by packing compactly and being organized so the movers have the space to do their jobs and things are not in the way to slow them ddown.

  145. To save money on moving I like to call around for moving quotes, and have everything packed and ready for them. If it isn’t ready you waste money on them waiting or doing it for you.

  146. There are multiple ways one can save money when hiring a mover. First, know your budget. It may be easier and cheaper for you to rent a moving truck and pack for yourself. Second, one must identify the essentials. Clothes that you haven’t worn in a while can be donated; the rest can be packed in your own vehicle. Using your vehicle for moving also applies to smaller items like kitchenware and pictures as to decrease weight and volume. Also, some stores like are willing to give you their extra boxes for free. In addition, if you’re moving far and are not attached to your furniture, don’t be afraid to shop around ebay and local newspapers for furniture. This way, you can sell the furniture you have and get new furniture in your new space.

  147. When moving out of my college dorm, I used these helpful tricks: don’t be afraid to use containers and cabinets as boxes for smaller items that need packing. This way you save space, wouldn’t need as big of a vehicle and then save money that way. Also get family to help! but know when something is too heavy or needs delicate/ trained handling. Lastly, make sure you look over the movers around you. Just doing a little bit of research in the cheapest option, and making sure their are no accompanying fees could help you save

  148. A tip for moving with the best price is to reach out to local moving companies, most of the time they will have reduced prices for locals. I also recommend renting out the van/truck to move the items you need – that way you only pay for the vehicle and not the workers. Finally, I would only use movers for bigger items and then use your own vehicle for smaller items.

  149. For every move I have been involved it the best money saving aspect is always organization!!! The more you plan and research the smoother the move goes resulting in few to no unexpected costs, the best deals, and lower stress as well.

  150. Wow I think it’s a super cool coincidence that my family is moving just right this week. It’s an exciting process but the moving costs are financially daunting. I would say a good moving tip is to be organized and take only what you need. Asking for help from friends and family members should definitely be a must in order to save money. Do your research, make sure to get several quotes that you can compare to get the best deal. Ask for advice from people who have moved in the past and what were their strategies were.

  151. Come to this website to find useful tips when moving to a different place.

  152. In my experience, the easiest way to save money when moving is to do as much as you can by yourself. If the movers you hire charge by the hour, make sure you are ready for them to work eficiently by packing up all of your boxes, labeling which rooms they belong it, and organizing your boxes so they can be loaded quickily. That way the movers can be in and out quickly.

  153. Getting the best price when finding a mover is easy, go to FindMoversNow.com and search through movers to get the best competitive rate possible for whatever type of move you need to make.

  154. The best way I found to save money while moving to a new place or just moving my belongings is to reuse some of the boxes I already have (such as amazon boxes) or using some of my reusable containers for easier transportation. This is one of the best ways to save money and time, on top of that, it’s also extremely beneficial to the environment.

  155. Something to do to get the best price from a moving company is to get rid of everything you don’t need. More likely than not, you don’t need a mover, but if you do, try to reduce everything you have.

  156. Use recycled materials around the house to pack belongings in

  157. Subject Line: Movers only move Large appliances
When moving long distance one tip I would give for reducing the cost of movers are to have the movers to move only the large appliances and or items. The small items will be ship using greyhound or any another shipment express companies. or Have your family members and or friend drive some items out of state as a family road trip to cost down cost.

  158. It is true that most companies and movers will charge by the hour so the faster you can move the more money you save, which generally means packing tighter or taking less stuff is the way to go. And also, of course, choosing the place with the best rates, and also just being friendly. Yes, these movers are working for you but if you’re nice to them and even tip them well they will likely be more motivated to work and therefore will work faster. So basically choosing the best rates, packing as tightly and in the least amount of boxes possible, and being a kind person will hopefully be the best way to save money with a moving company!

  159. The best way to get the best price from a moving company is to be as efficient as possible. Having moved many times when I was younger, my family has gotten the art of moving down to a science. Before you move, minimize what you’ll be taking with you. Nothing says “fresh start” like donating old clothes and toys before you move to a new location. Once you’ve lightened your load, it’s time to assemble your Moving Team. By assembling a team of family members and friends, then dividing up the various responsibilities, we have learned how to effectively move from one place to another without hassle. While the strongest members of your team are helping load heavy items into the truck, the more organized members can carefully pack and place delicate items. Once you’ve made your way to your new residence, organize all your boxes by room and begin unpacking!

  160. Always weigh your options & think everything out! If you try to rush a big move, the outcome will be worse than when you sit down & think about the small details beforehand.

  161. The best and most effective way to save on movers is to purchase your own supplies. Similarly, you can save both time and money by disassembling furniture on your own. Lastly, if you are purchasing new furniture or appliances, have them delivered to your new address rather than loading them including them in your move.

    • One tip for getting the best price from a moving company is to plan the time of your move. The winter and fall seasons are generally a slower time for movers so they may have reduced prices or be more willing to negotiate prices. Another aspect of planning your time to move is to plan the time of day, moving during rush hour will likely lead to poor gas milage due to sitting in traffic.

    • one way you can save money is by only paying for services you need and not including extra things that can be done yourself.

  162. We have moved several times to different states. We found getting several quotes helps you find the best rate, purchasing your own supplies and packing up the entire house yourself. Then the movers just have to come in and move the items and it saves you in hours. The guys in our church and family also do all the disassembling and reassembling for us.

  163. Throughout my life, I have moved half a dozen times. The best way to save money is to move everything by yourself with the help of friends and family. Of course renting a truck is the cheapest way to go but if that cannot be done then getting a low cost quote from a moving company is the next best thing. Some companies may be cheaper than others but those cheaper companies may move other family’s items along with yours. It is best to read the terms and conditions and fine prints before signing up for moving companies.

  164. shopping around and packing up your stuff before they come with your own supplies cuts down on costs

  165. Most moving companies charge by the hour. To save money you have to get them in and out. Have your stuff packed and at the door, have your family help.

  166. How to get the best price from a moving company is to budget. I am in the process of moving now and I set up a financial plan on how much everything was going to cost. I budgeted what I needed for movers and found the best company.

  167. I believe the best way to get the best price from a moving company is to ask friends and family to help move, if you can bargain and ask to price match from another company you have seen. Think about flexibility and have multiple options open.

  168. Plan, plan, plan! As our spring semester abruptly came to a close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has emphasizes the necessity of planning for moving. By recognizing your moving date well in advance, you can locate companies that will charge lower prices to help move and store your things and avoid paying late fees. Another way to save on moving expenses involves the way you pack. When you limit the amount of items you move with — whether it’d be to a college dorm or to a new house — you can avoid paying for more boxes and more movers, thus saving you lots of money! Be realistic with what you will need and use and pack according to that list.

  169. The best way to move while also saving a reasonable amount of money is by gathering family and friends and moving all of the items that can be done together, such as boxes, televisions, and things that aren’t as heavy. While also doing this it’s important to pack as much as you can in boxes and bags in order for it to be easier to transport. Once the bigger items are left then you can start searching and comparing the quotes of different moving companies. From there you can chose the moving company that is most effective and reasonable to move the bigger things, such as bed sets, dinning rooms, etc while also doing so on a timely bases in order to save as much money because they do charge by the hour.

  170. A plan of action is the best first step when moving. Knowing what you’re moving allows for you to properly pack and wrap items to prevent any getting damaged or lost. Having a good idea of the items to pack also provides you to have a blueprint of how to pack items into the moving space. Whether it be a van, trailer, or moving truck, you can save space and trips if you use the space carefully and accurately. Another step to moving is those you have help. If you have highly delicate and valuable items, hiring a professional in the field of the items may save you the potential damage. Although, if it is basic necessities that are not as valuable asking for assistance from friends and family can save you paying for help.

  171. The best way to save on movers is to hire your friends and family!!! Offer them a meal ( or two) , something to drink ( wine, beer, coke, sprite…) and they can help with packing boxes and loading trucks.

  172. Shop around for the best rates, dismantle your own furniture and pack your own boxes, bring everything to the main room that way the moving company only needs to move items from one room. Or maybe check on packing pods (you pack them, they move them).

  173. Ask your friends/family to help with the move. Also, doing your own packing will save you money and will be more efficient.

  174. One tip for getting the best price from a moving company is to plan the time of your move. The winter and fall seasons are generally a slower time for movers so they may have reduced prices or be more willing to negotiate prices. Another aspect of planning your time to move is to plan the time of day, moving during rush hour will likely lead to poor gas milage (increasing the price) due to sitting in traffic.

  175. To get the best price from a moving company, I would call around and get a quote from several different companies. After doing so I would compare the quote and go with the company that have the best price and service.

  176. The easiest way to save on movers is to only use them when you can no longer do it yourself safely. For most moves, renting a truck and packing up the rest in your vehicle is enough. However, there are people who are not comfortable with driving large trucks, so movers would be a good choice for them. Similarly, there are people who are not good at driving for long periods of time which is when movers would be beneficial. Movers are great option when it comes to larger items because they have the proper equipment to things like fridges and stoves. If movers are a good choice for your situation, then researching prices and companies is the next step.

  177. An easy way to move cheaply is to only use movers when you can no longer do it yourself safely. For most moves, renting a truck and getting the help of friends is enough. However, there are people who are not comfortable with driving a big truck, so movers would be a good option for them. Similarly, some people are not good at driving for long periods of time which is when movers would be beneficial assistance. Movers can also be a good choice when it comes to large items because they have the equipment to move things like fridges. If a person is going to use movers, then they should research prices and companies for the best option.

  178. The most effective way to save on movers/moving costs to to compare at least three companies prices, do as much as you can on your own, and to use as many of your own packing supplies as you can. Getting creative helps! No packing popcorn? Use your soft clothing to wrap breakable items before packing.

  179. The best tip to save money when moving is to not pack up items in drawers. I have found it is best to pull drawers out of furniture pieces with all items still in the drawer, have the movers place the furniture piece into the moving truck, and help them reload the drawers into the furniture pieces on the truck. This method saves on having to buy boxes, time that would be used packing and unpacking the boxes, and helps the furniture to weigh less when carrying it. It also allows the packing of the moving truck to be efficient.

  180. Biggest tip I would suggest in regards to moving. It will never be a breeze unless your someone that literally doesn’t need anything but the clothes on their back.
I just recently moved states and I ONLY brought with me what I needed. I absolutely hate moving and despise the whole ordeal of having to deal with the stress of it all. BUT I told myself I would sell everything I didn’t need or donate whatever I didn’t need and pack my whole life in two large boxes.
It was the best feeling to get rid of so many things I didn’t need or neglected over the years. Make your move simple, and only take what you need is my suggestion.

  181. In addition to the ways listed in the article, I saved money on moving companies by asking if they sold boxes/tape in bulk/at a discount. I also try to find some of the smaller moving companies in the area to help me pack up, and in exchange I cook them dinner or buy them lunch during the day, and promote them on social media!

  182. The easiest way to save money would be efficiency on your part. Make sure research and compare pricing amongst certified movers. When you’ve selected the company of your choice, make sure you have securely packed your belongings making sure to leave as little work as possible for the movers. It helps knowing where you want your belongings. Make sure the boxes are clearly labeled to make the process of placing boxes quick and organized.

  183. I think one of the best ways to lower your moving costs is to do as much as possible by yourself or with family/friends who are willing to help and only hire movers when absolutely necessary. Also, when you do hire movers, make sure you get several quotes and negotiate times. You may not need them for a whole days work so make sure you are not paying for that! As far as moving supplies go, usually when you ask around with friends, family, and even at the office people have plenty of empty boxes that are usually free for the taking. As always with a big move do your research. You don’t want to hire people and then them be lazy or not worth your time or money. Finding good reliable movers is worth it.

  184. One of the best ways to get the best price from the moving company is to know what you need and want. Its important to know this ahead of time to get the correct price and always have your things ready to move and organized to make it easier. This all helps using less time and not getting charged for things unexpected. You get what you pay for.

  185. There are several ways to save money when hiring movers, you could get several quotes, or do the moving during a slow season such as the winter. You could also get the help from family or friends to get a cheaper quote.

  186. I think the best way to get the best price is to donate materials you have no use for in taking with you to your new house. The less materials you have, the cheaper your rate more than likely. Then call around and look for reasonable rates before making your final selection.

  187. My best tip for getting the best price from a moving company is that your community is your greatest resource. Using a local moving company ensures that not only will you be giving back to your community through investing in one of its businesses, but you will also likely pay much less than if you move through a large, national company.

For example, I went to Northwestern University for my undergraduate degree, and one of the fraternities on campus moved people from their dorm or off-campus housing at the end of the year. For a much smaller price than many other moving companies, you could have your belongings moved and help a local business. Moreover, all proceeds from Delta Chi Movers go to the V Foundation, an organization that awards grants for innovative cancer research. In sum, choosing a local moving company can not only be more cost-effective and give back to your local community, but it often also goes to a good cause.

  188. When trying to get the best price from a moving company it is best to consult with multiple companies and get references. Additionally, watch for the companies that are offering discounts and/or additional services.

  189. The best way to save money moving is to simply stay put.
but if you’re really dead set on moving be sure to go through all of your stuff while packing, only bring the things you really really need and want. if you’re just discovering you have something while packing, you probably won’t use it. Have family and friends help you if at all possible. if not, try small companies and local people who may be willing to help or work for free. the 13 year old boy next door would be thrilled with even half the amount you’d pay a professional.

  190. In order to save money, it is essential that you compare quotes, and not just accept the first price you’re given. Negotiate with companies based off of quotes given by other companies. Additionally, you can negotiate down prices by asking how much they can knock off the price if you agree to pack or to move smaller, non-essentials yourself.

  191. Saving money is important in any move! I always try to save the movers’ time by having all of my items packed securely in boxes before they arrive. That way I know my items were boxed appropriately and the movers’ time is well used – as is my money.

  192. Moving is always easier with the help of family and friends – and cheaper, too. Packing and disassembling what you can yourself will also save time for the movers, which can save you money. Though it may shift liability, the more you can get ready and transport yourself, the lower the cost in the long run. Happy moving!

  193. Listen very carefully. This advice could keep you from spending too much money on a moving company when the time comes.

    1) Travel back in time to when your parents or a close relative were contemplating on forming a family business. Recommended for this step: obtaining a time machine. If you can’t find a time machine, make one. If you don’t have a relative who’s ever wanted to create a business, simply insert the idea of becoming a business owner in your relatives’ minds. Recommended: Watching the movie ‘Inception’ (2010) to find out how to insert dreams into other people’s minds.

    2) Travel back to the present. You’ll receive a call from your uncle, the one who started a successful moving company a couple years back, at exactly 2:58pm, and he’ll ask you why you haven’t told him that you’re planning on moving. Tell him that you haven’t had the chance to yet. At 3:04pm, he’ll offer to move your stuff for you for free.

    3) Accept your uncle’s offer.

    4) On moving day, try and lend a helping hand to your uncle and his company, but ultimately relax knowing that they’ve got everything under control.

    5) After everything is settled into its place in your new home, celebrate by looking into your bank account, knowing that you didn’t spend a dime.

Alternatives: Marry into a family of movers, throw all your stuff away so you have nothing to move, or never move in your entire life.

Other alternatives: research on different moving companies to see which offers the best deal, donate the stuff you don’t need to lessen the load, have your friends and family help you pack up and move, rely on a moving company to carry your heavier furniture while you transport the lighter boxes/furniture in your own car.

  194. To get the best price from a moving company, you must be informed and do your research. Similar, to the process of voting where you must be informed to pick the best candidate, or asking for a breakdown of your medical bill to know exactly what you’d be charged on to avoid any extraneous fees, you must be informed in choosing the best moving company. Thus, do your research and narrow down the moving company with the best value, then once you have a good pool of candidates, ask for a breakdown of their prices and what they charge for. Therefore, if you remain informed and do your research you will be getting the best price. Moreover, by asking for a breakdown and having meticulous planning, you won’t be blindly paying someone and may lose money you could have saved.

  195. We save money by calling family to come over and help us move. we never use movers its all the family that helps.

  196. A way to save money when moving long distance is to downsize by selling some larger items that perhaps may not be of much value to you anymore. You may find that you can even get rid of some of the smaller items as well and you could have enough to host a garage sell. You can also use platforms like Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp to sell your items. The money that you make off selling these items can go towards the cost of movers.

  197. To ensure that you are not over spending when hiring movers it to take time to research the company, as around for second opinions, and get multiple quotes. It is important to know how much you plan on moving and where to. All of those things could save you money when hiring movers !

  198. I would save money by moving most of the boxes myself by renting a UHaul or other source. I would use movers to haul the larger items such as appliance and furniture. This will cut the cost and time in half.

  199. Asking your first choice moving company to match prices or promotions of other companies can be a really effective way to get a better price. Companies want your business and will try and do what they can to get you to go with them. Even if they won’t match it completely the chances of them giving you some sort of discount are high as they are aware that you could use a different company for a lower price. So even if you don’t get a price match it is still likely that this method will save you money!

  200. When hiring movers, save money by hiring smaller businesses to get a cheaper quote. I also have all boxes labeled and moved to the living room to prevent going over the three hour time slot that I book. All major appliances and bed frames are also unhooked and ready to load into the moving truck. I will then have the fastest route mapped out for the movers and have all doors labeled to correspond with all boxes. I also bring waters, gatorade, and snacks for the movers to help motivate them throughout the moving process.

  201. The number one tip that I learned, from past experience, is that you pack yourself. Considering that you packed the belongings yourself, you know that breakable items won’t break due to a movers mishap of them packing for you. Sure it’s more work on your part, but it’s less money you have to pay for the movers packing for you and less money in having to repair a broken item. Lastly, if you pack yourself you know for sure that an item will not be unpacked and left behind.

  202. I did my research on the best moving company possible and called them up. They give an estimate. I replied with this:
“But how much would it cost if I schedule my move 5 months in advance? And what if I offer flexibility when it comes to date and time? And what if I lighten the load as much I possibly can? And make each box as well packaged and easy to handle as possible? What would the estimate be then?”
    The estimate lowered.

  203. I think one can save on moving costs by being able to move the small things that one can handle; call in the movers for the big stuff. Always look around and get quotes from multiple movers. Make sure to have your own boxes and this way you dont have to buy them from the mover directly, typically they are more expensive.

  204. One way that helped me lower my moving cost was planning ahead. By doing so I was able to pack and take as many things as I could, I also moved everything that I wanted the movers to take in one area. By doing so it saved time and money because the movers didn’t have to take so long loading everything up. Planning ahead also gave me time to find the best quote. Usually the later you wait the more they charge.

  205. To get the best price from a moving company, a customer needs to research before accepting a deal. Contacting multiple moving companies allows a customer to see the price range for the service they are requesting. Through research, a customer gets to understand where the market is and offer a reasonable price. They can also leverage their knowledge to negotiate for a better price.

  206. After a family decides that they will need to hire a moving company, they should first shop around for the best prices. Do some research and find three good and fair priced companies. Read the reviews, talk to others who have used the companies and be educated on what each company has to offer, along with their rates. After doing your research and picking a company, it is important to take the steps necessary to save yourself some money. First, have everything packed and ready to go. If the movers have to pack up your belongings, you will be paying way more money than you would be if you were to pack it up yourself. Next, move everything you possibly can to the first floor. This will eliminate the time spent walking up and down the stairs. If possible, try to have a good walking path, as you don’t want the movers to have to walk around the whole house, just to get out the door. If furniture needs to be disassembled, do it before the company arrives, again eliminating unnecessary expenses. Although this may not apply to many people, water beds are a huge hassle to move, so avoid having movers move them at all costs. All of these tips will help your get movers, without breaking the bank!

  207. When a family makes the decision to look for a moving company, they must shop around for the company that offers the best options and rates. Find 3 different moving companies, and read the reviews. Talk to others who have used each company, and get yourself educated regarding the advantages and disadvantages of each company. After picking a company, there are many steps you can take to ensure that you get the most bang for your buck. First, have everything packed. The longer the movers have to stay there packing, the more money you will have to pay. Next, move everything you possibly can to the first floor. By doing so, the movers will not have to carry things up and down the stairs countless times. Furthermore, have a good walking path for the movers. You don’t want to have everything so cluttered that the movers have to walk all the way around the house just to get out the door. Next, if furniture needs to be disassembled, do it yourself. This will again help you save money, as the movers will be spending their time moving things and not dissembling furniture you could have done yourself. Lastly, although it may not apply to many people, avoid water beds at all costs. Water beds are extremely hard to move and can create a huge hassle. In the end, all of these tips will help you get a great moving company, without breaking the bank.

  208. When moving to college, the best way to save money on saving for me was to use all five of my siblings. This made it very convenient and free!!

  209. One way to save money moving is to move as little stuff as possible. Get rid of everything you don’t want or need–donate to thrift stores, give stuff to friends, have a garage sale. It’s amazing how much of your stuff you can part with and never think about again! When you move, never buy new boxes! It’s bad for the environment and it’s something you can get for free. People are always getting rid of boxes and they’re easy to come buy. Then talk to several different moving companies to compare prices before choosing one.

  210. Move during the off season, typically anytime of the year besides June and July and at the beginning and end of each month.

  211. I had to move to Australia from the US. I saved money by using the “does this bring joy to me” approach when I was deciding what to bring. Sometimes lightening the load saves a lot of money!

  212. My suggestion is to shop around for quotes to find the cheapest price and if anything, ask for help from family and friends. Make sure that you know exactly what you need, so you’re not paying for anything extra that wasn’t necessary. Also, if you do hire movers, label your boxes, so they know what is fragile and what can stand a little moving around. Just a reminder!

  213. One of the biggest suggestions I have is asking if your mover is running any specials. A lot of companies run specials that they don’t advertise. You can also search online for companies that run specials. Comparing quotes is another great way to save money. Get quotes from multiple companies, and see if your chosen company will match a quote from a competitor. A lot of times, they’ll match so as not to lose a customer.

  214. I have found that the easiest way to find the cheapest way to move is to do research and find the cheapest moving company for all the heavy lifting and for light things take as much stuff as you can in your own cars.

  215. The way to get the best price on a move is to do most of the work yourself, and when you have to hire movers, pay them in gold doubloons found in a shipwreck so you don’t have to pay out of pocket

  216. When we made our last big move we contacted several moving companies to find a reliable and reasonably priced company. It helped us save money by doing a lot of the packing ourselves with boxes we purchased used off social media sites. It also helped going with a company that scheduled us so that we were on a truck with another family going the same direction so our quote was cheaper.

  217. I think there is several ways to save money when hiring movers.

    1. The first thing you could do is get several quotes. Don’t go with the first quote you find. It might be the cheapest but won’t be the best, sometimes cheapest is not always the right answer.

    2. Get help from family and friends, the more you can move yourself the better.

    3. Barter with people, if you are good with cooking, or like to cut the grass, maybe offer your neighbor one of these services in exchange to help move.

  218. There is a ton of good advice here! I would make sure that you are all ready to go on the morning of. There have been many times people had to wait on me because I said, “Oh I’ll just do it tomorrow!” only to fall behind early in the morning. I would also pack as much stuff in cars as possible and save the moving truck for the large furniture items. Lastly, I would make sure that your new place is clean and ready to go. That way when you offload, it is ready to go and your aren’t having to move things after the movers have left.

  219. Take extreme ownership of your move. Understand why you are moving, the goals you have for the next step, and then use it as motivation to do as much as you can yourself! Finally, put yourself in a position to leverage your negotiation with the company. Negotiation doesn’t tend to work if they know you have few other options. Believing that you can control just about every aspect of the transaction is a real game changer.

  220. To save money on boxes when moving, visit your local grocery or department store. They receive boxes everyday in all sizes and they end up in the trash. Most managers are more than happy to oblige, and give you some boxes.

  221. One important point to consider when hiring movers is the reviews about the movers you choose. While cost is always a motivator in determining a moving service to choose, it shouldn’t be the most important factor. To help minimize the stress cost can cause try to enlist family and friends to help pack and move you. Also, you can try to move certain items early as possible.

  222. Do as much of the work yourself. Making it quick and easy on the movers saves you money.

  223. There are many ways to save money while moving! Here are some of the options I’ve found to be beneficial in all of the times I’ve moved, as well has helped move others professionally or just to be nice!

    1. Sell what you don’t need; A lot of the time, we accumulate things that we don’t necessarily use on a daily basis. People have tendencies to collect items out of an inherent necessity for hoarding resources, something that was advantageous in times where resources were scarce. When moving, its important to be honest with yourself about what you need and don’t need! Do you need those extra 10 t-shirts you’ve held on to for years? What about the random knick-knacks you’ve collected? They may be fun, but are the practical to have? Do you want to spend the money containing and then moving them a large distance? If the answer is no, find an opportunity to sell or donate items. Second hand clothing stores such as Plato’s Closet will buy clothing from you, depending on their quality. This is a great way for added income to help add to funding the moving of your important items! Goodwill also has a service of picking up larger furniture items one would like to donate. Don’t want to keep that old couch you’ve had for years? No problem! They’ll come do the heavy lifting for you.

    2. Find the cheapest means for labor; Friends, family members, and even ad’s for service on sites such as Craigslist, Facebook, and even using college moving services will help you save money in many ways. Creating incentive with food, cash payments, or other means of compensation will entice anyone to spend some of their free time helping you. In the means of bartering, offer your own moving services to close ones when they are in need of an extra hand for their own moves! This will allow everyone to walk away from the move feeling like they’re being taken care of instead of being used.

    3. Renting a truck, or borrowing one!; For those that have friends with large cars, the means of exchanging compensation for services could be redone for the means of using their larger vehicles. Renting a truck, though it can be expensive at times, allows for the more efficient means of moving, by lessening the amount of trips one must make to and from the old and new place of living.

If you follow these tips, you will undoubtedly find yourself saving money, stress and time on that big moving day.

  224. Hello all! After having moved multiple times throughout my life, as well as having helped others move and even having worked as a professional mover for a time, here are some of my tips on how to save money and make that big moving day all the more easy.

    1. Get rid of the items you don’t need; We all have innate tendencies in ourselves to collect items as a means of potential resources in the future. While this was a coveted trait for survival in days past, in our current age the action is unnecessary. When it comes to moving, it is a great opportunity to be honest with yourself, and sort through your things in an attempt to truly discern what one regularly uses and does not. Second-hand thrift stores are a great option for reselling gently used clothing one may not wear as frequently as they used to or ever did, and can be a great second source of income for the upcoming move. If one has furniture they do not wish to continue owning, Goodwill has a donation service that picks up used furniture, so they can literally do the heavy lifting for you. Those and other services for donations are a great option for slowly getting rid of unnecessary items for the big moving day!

    2. Finding other means of labor other than professionals; It may not be in one’s budget to use a full-fledged moving service. That is why tapping into one’s friend group or family can be a great option for labor! One can offer food, cash payments, or other means of compensation to make those offering their time and service feel like they’re getting treated fairly. One great option is to offer your own moving capacities when the time comes for those helping you to move! That way, both parties walk away feeling like they’re getting a good deal, and whoever is moving that day gets the job done!

    3. Renting a truck or borrowing someone’s larger vehicle; While renting a truck may not be anyone’s ideal financial choice, the option to move everything one owns in an entire day is a very tempting scenario. Having the size of a larger vehicle is ideal for minimizing the amount of trips one must make to and from the place one is moving from. Borrowing a large vehicle from a friend is also an option, if you know someone who has one and if they are willing to share. The same means of compensation listed above can be offered in exchange for their generosity. Moving days can be a stressful and painful day, and to have this stress not be stretched over days or weeks can minimize the toll this can take on the person moving.

I hope this list helps! Using some of the tips here and finding ones that fit your life and situation will undoubtedly make your life easier on the big moving day!

    Thanks for reading!

  225. The best way to save money when hiring movers is to do your RESEARCH! Many people find one company and stick with it, because the company is the closest to them or the first one they find. However, doing your research about different moving companies can help you save a lot of money. Find different companies and look at their reviews! From there, pick a few and ask for quotes. Find the company that is flexible and understanding, treating the customer as if they were a family member. Picking the right time to move and packing the necessities can also save you money.

  226. I would do a search online for local movers and call for numerous quotes to get the best option available in your area.

  227. There are many steps you can take to make sure that you get the best price from a moving company. First, make sure that the company is a reliable and professional one. There are many companies with low prices which seem too good to be true. These are most likely scams. Then, compare quotes from different companies. Consider asking for an itemized quote so you can see exactly what you’re paying for and even take note of some services you may not need from them. Because some moving companies charge by time and materials, make sure to get rid of things you may not need at your next apartment or home, and move smaller things on your own with your own vehicle. You can also help pack the items yourself to reduce fees. This will not only save you money, but will prevent any broken or lost items! You should also make sure to book your move early and have all your items when they arrive. If you live somewhere where there are many stairs, try to have a lot of your items brought down before the movers arrive in order to save time, and money!

  228. Moving to a new house is a big deal for every family!! It is necessary that you take the correct steps in having a successful move that is completed safely and efficiently. In my opinion, when choosing a moving company or van, it is not all about the cost of how much the service will be. You are trusting these vehicles and employees to transport every single belonging of yours to a new spot without damage and any problem. To make ensure these obstacles do not arrive, when searching for moving companies it is important to look at reviews, research insurance/damage polices, contact the business and read all fine print and what each fee is covering. From experience, the worst thing that can happen is a valuable of your family’s gets destroyed in the move from careless employees that are being rough with your items. Make sure you choose a company that takes the appropriate precautions against this, it is an unfortunate even that you do not want to happen!!!

Once you have narrowed down your search from the key factors of protection and safety of your items, it is now important to get several quotes to pick from. Of course to save money you should pack whatever you can possible and only keep the heavy lifting items for the professionals. Have family members aid in the move and ask around for moving supplies that you can receive for free (boxes, newspaper, clothes, etc). Choose that quote that is most affordable to you out of the safe and protected services. You will not be disappointed after taking these few extra steps to ensure the safety of your belongings. Be safe and good luck on your adventure in your new home 🙂

    • The easy and best way to save money when hiring a moving company is to box up your own stuff, take all furniture apart yourself. Also if you are able or can get help move your furniture and boxes all into one room, so the moves can save time by only having to go to one area of the house.
One of thing have the items you will need first packed on the truck first, so they will be the last items taking off the truck.

When you get to where you are going have all your belongs put into one room or area.

  229. I believe a great way to save money on movers is to:

    1. Ensure that you start your preparations early before you actually move. Take a couple hours out of your day or week to start going through your belongings. Decide what can be donated, thrown away (look at expiration dates for products, broken things or if they’re at that point, useless to you), and decide what should be kept.

    2. Buy your own packing supplies (boxes, bubble wrap, tape, etc), buy a moving truck (or ask a friend with a large truck for assistance) and pack in an organized fashion. A helpful tip is to use colored tape to decipher which box goes to which room and prepare all of your boxes in one room so that the movers can be in and out in no time!

    3. Overall, have a plan! Be sure to be specific with the movers on what should go where, what’s fragile, etc. If you’re organized, your move will go very smoothly and you’ll be able to save more money on your move, as well as have less frustration moving from point A to point B.

  230. I believe the best way to save money and get the best price when working with a moving company are to determine a good price through quotes, reducing the amount of items that need to be moved, and by looking into the reviews for any businesses that are showing potential.

  231. The best way to save money when moving is to firstly avoid booking movers when it is a busy season! Book ahead of time so you can avoid those last minute or late fees, or have a better chance at getting the best prices instead of booking expensive ones at the last minute. It is also important to learn to use your resources. Use cheaper alternatives to avoid spending unnecessary amounts of money when you have family who are willing to help out, or known companies who have great prices especially if you are moving locally. Lastly, budget. The prices for movers or trucks can be low however consider other factors into the price such as gas, quotes, and other expenses that can be added. Overall, it is important to research, book early, and use your resources to ensure an affordable and great moving experience!

  232. Moving can be very stressful. Soon I’ll be moving across country and there are a few things that come to mind for tips. Get Insurance is definitely one of them. Your belongings have value so it’s better to make sure that you have them insured for safety. Also, creating a list can be very big for organizing, you don’t want to forget anything.

  233. Several ways to save money when moving to a long distance location is planning ahead of time, packing using your own resources, and utilizing your own automobiles as transportation. Planning ahead of the move in day can help in figuring out what clothes/items to donate, sell and keep. You can utilize Youtube to see other people advice in how to pack, what boxes they used, and how they organize their belongings in their automobiles. USPS offers free boxes that could be ordered ahead of time to have them delivered before moving out. When packing you should utilize your own resources like your family members, friends, or neighbor to help with the process of boxing and putting all the boxes in the automobile. To save money on a Uhaul, the best option will be using your own automobile for transportation of your belonging and you.

  234. The best way to move is to recruit all of your friends and family. The more hands the better!

  235. As someone who has moved 10 times in 5 years, there was no way I could ask my family and friends for assistance that many times! So here are some tips I used when choosing a moving company:

    • Ask friends and family for the moving company they would recommend
    • Based on those suggestions, look up their websites and reviews on YELP
    • Try to pick a moving company within proximity to your current residence
    • Pack everything yourself! (I was able to get boxes for free from my job)
    • Throw away, give away, sell away anything you do not need or want at your next residence
    • Move all your packed boxes close to the entrance of your residence; stairs and boxes in every room will waste time in moving them into the truck and TIME IS MONEY
    • Give your movers detailed instructions for the destination, but its best to have them follow you to ensure driving time is minimal

    Good luck!

  236. One great tip to save money when moving is to try and do a lot of it by yourself. Get family or friends to help do what you can do by yourself first. If you have to hire a mover, see if you can rent a U-Haul and get them just to load it up (U-Haul is a lot cheaper than them driving themselves). If you do not have many people to help, look up lots of movers and ask others for their movers or their experiences with other movers first. Try and find the cheapest but still good movers possible by looking at reviews and getting as much help from others first. Hope this helps!

  237. Use an online moving price calculator to estimate a cost, find a few companies with good reviews that are for sure licensed professionals, request estimates from the companies you’ve chosen, and leverage your negotiations with your other quotes and special offers.

  238. One way I save MONEY when moving, is offer an exchange of service to family members and friends : ie. if you help me move, I’ll mow your yard. Or, the one that seems to work on my brother and his friends – if you help me move, I will cook two meals for you / take you out to eat.

  239. I think the best tip I have ever been giving about moving is never picking the cheapest option just because it is the cheapest. My dad works in fiancees and with anything he does, he gets three quotes: The most expensive, the least, and something in the middle. With the information the three give you, you will be able to better know what could be offered and figure what is the cheapest company with the best quality work.

  240. When hiring movers, check your options. Compare prices, take into consideration any fees, do your math! Then when the time comes, make sure you effectively utilize your box space to contain your items to reduce costs on transportation. Hope this helps !

  241. The best way to save money when hiring movers is to see what you and your family can move on your own then find and compare different moving companies till you find which is the most effective and in your budget!

  242. I think that some of the best tips to get the best prices from a mover are already included on this website. As with everything, compare prices and get various quotes.

  243. There are a few easy ways to move. They involve getting a few quotes to see how much it will cost to hire movers or either ask your family. Another issue you won’t have to worry about if you ask family is having the furniture in places you don’t want it. You also could move during a slow period so that it wouldn’t be that expensive. Most people move during the summer so you could always move during winter or fall. Family is cheap as well because they help you and it won’t cost you anything or if it does it won’t be very expensive.

  244. How to get the best price from a moving company is actually easier than you think. First, google the question and it will pull up a large list of moving companies. Next, do your research on the creditability and insurability of those companies, this will ensure that you will not get scammed. Then, contact the best companies for prices, be sure to have all the needed information such as distance and the amount of stuff/rooms to be moved. Finally, after you have completed your list compare prices and what each company has to offer. Also, it may save a lot of money if you pack everything yourself, as well. Contact the company of your choice and schedule your move and there you have it.

  245. A few tips to save money when moving – Plan ahead. Start saving large boxes you receive from online purchases. Also, most businesses are happy to allow you to take their “trash” if you ask. Go to a retailer and request boxes they intend to throw away. Broken down boxes may need to be taped back up but you’ll save a lot of money.

Time is money! Save money with “Pay by the hour” movers by planning for your new location. Map out where heavy items go and have movers leave boxes in one area; you can do the rest.

  246. Moving can be stressful to say the least! I remember when my family moved from our house in the mountains to a place in town. Of course, being only 8 years old I didn’t help with the actual packing or moving very much. I did notice that a task that could have made my mom stress out was made easier because of the people moving our furniture and other household items. Being so young I didn’t know the process that my mom went through to find this specific moving company. I know they were a legitimate business and we weren’t rich so the company was probably quite affordable. What I did notice was that there was open dialogue between the movers and my mom. They explained what they were going to do before they did it. They made sure to move the furniture exactly where mom wanted it. There was communication and openness and I think this was a major factor in my mother’s peace of mind during our move. So, in the end, you don’t want to get ripped off, you want to pay a reasonable price, but I also think you want to hire a company you feel comfortable with and trust. This might not directly answer the question of how the get the best price from a moving company but I believe there’s more to consider than just price. My mom found an honest, trustworthy business to move her and her loved one’s things and for some people peace of mind is just an important as speed or low cost. Good luck to everyone moving during this unprecedented time!

  247. There are a few different ways you can get the best price when you move! One way is to pack up your belongings yourself. This way, you know exactly what box everything is in and you know it is all safe. Another way is to book early. Some movers may charge a late fee for booking last minute. Either way, moving should not be taxing on your wallet or stressful on your mind.

  248. When hiring a mover the first thing i would recommend to do is ask yourself a few questions. Do you really need a mover or can you (A) put in a little more armwork rather than (B) sacrificing your wallet?Ask yourself is this move big enough to spend hundreds of dollars on?
For example, a couple without kids are moving into their new home. This new home is already going to be expensive so adding “hiring movers” to their list is probably not in the budget. They don’t have many furniture pieces they mostly have their small items and clothes. For this example it would be best to go with solution (A) because they can move everything in a pickup truck. Their logical way of thinking would be less items equals less trips which in turn equals no need for movers. This couple would be puting more arm strength in, but their cost would truly only be the filing up on gas a few times; therefore, saving them hundreds of dollars. This couple would be saving money that would then be put to other necessities such as getting furniture to fill up the home.
On the other hand there is a family of 5 who is moving into a their dream home. This family would choose solution (B) because of the size of the family and the amount of furniture and items they will be moving. This family would then do some research. They would look for specific characteristic traits in a company such as price, reliability, and professionalism. Once they choose a company they would try to be as cost efficient as possible and do as much as the family can do on their own. Once the movers come in it should be easy for them to transport the items saving your family money.

  249. When moving, start packing early! After my 8th move, I understood that having plenty of time showed me see what I truly did not need to keep. This downsized my moving load and allowed more space in my car for personal belongings and fragile items. I was able to leave larger items for the movers (like furniture) and have everything ready to go on time.

  250. Using movers can be a risky decision, you are putting putting unknown people in charge of your possessions. That is why it is important to use a three point system. 1 point is if the company is bad in a category, 2 is if they are ok, and 3 is if they are great. Then I look at past reviews, reliability, and if they deliver the services on time. I also rate the quotes for each company. Whichever company has the most points is the one I use. before I confirm with the company, I use the other quotes to try and reduce the price, therefore getting the best service and cost.

  251. When negotiating pricing with a moving company, there are always a few negotiation techniques worth trying—some of which may produce better results than others. A popular method frequently employed entails the age-old reliance on flattery. After all, many say flattery “gets you everywhere” and you are trying to move, right? Moving companies, however, have grown wise to this ploy and no amount of compliments as to how well greased their dollies are or the size of their trucks or the brawn of their moving crew will likely result in much cost savings. More adroit negotiators may try reverse psychology with “we do not really need a moving company, as we can do it better ourselves. We are just bored and wasting people’s time.” Yet again, moving companies are all too familiar with this ploy and readily realize that many consumers fail to appreciate exactly how much that 88” widescreen television really weighs. One strained back and a broken screen later, the moving companies know the consumer will be calling, no longer price shopping, just happy to have anyone lend a hand.

Of course, after requesting a moving quote, the consumer could always just walk away, claiming the price is too much. However, if the moving company never comes back with a counteroffer, the consumer might find that he or she is out of luck and time with nobody but Aunt Martha to help with the move. And, nobody wants Aunt Martha moving their belongings.

Never fear, however, there is a fail-safe solution to this age-old dilemma. “What?” the masses cry out? Well, to the find the best price from a moving company, to be the envy of the local homeowners association when, as the new family in town, you “casually” mention what it cost your family to move your belongings, the Internet will be your confidant and (not-so) secret weapon to sleuthing out the best price possible. And, as fortune would have it, dear reader, you just happen to be on a moving company comparison website! Isn’t Lady Luck so generous with her credit? Reviews and pricing, white-glove service or do-it-yourself, a price comparison website will have all the answers to finding the best service and pricing for your moving needs, reducing at least one burden in the stressful process of moving. Whether simply moving across town or across country, the Internet will be your salvation, bringing clarity and peace to people moving everywhere. And, as a bonus piece of advice to both movers and those who are moving, always be sure to individually wrap grandmother’s china—it will save everyone involved significant heartache!

  252. There are many ways to get the best price from a moving company. First you should sort through your things and decide what can be donated or sold at a yard sale and what you must keep. Do not purchase boxes, get them from grocery stores like Aldi’s or ask nearby shipping factories to save some for you. Once you have boxes, you should pack up smaller items such as clothes and kitchen stuff by yourself or with family and friends. Make sure to pack up items that are fragile safely. When you are searching for a moving company to use, discuss all the possible fees and charges so you know every possibility.

  253. Moving companies usually charge by the hour, so having all your stuff ready at the time of arrival will save time and money. However, my family saved money by renting a trailer for hauling, so we didn’t have to pay workers to help us load and drive. This was the most economic option for us, considering we didn’t have that much to carry in the first place.

  254. Some movers will charge last-minute booking fees, so you can save money by scheduling well ahead of your moving day. Call your moving company to see when the best time to book would be. Some movers may also lower their quoted prices if you are flexible on what days and times they can move your items. It is also important to make sure that your items can be moved into your apartment right away when the movers arrive. If a company has to wait, you may be charged for the trouble. Double-check with your landlord about when you can move in to avoid any hold-ups on moving day.

  255. Moving is a huge adjustment. Especially when children are involved. We just moved last year and it was an eye opening experience, as it is for most people. You realize how much unnecessarily furniture/clutter you’ve been hoarding. I think the best advice for anyone moving is get down to the bare essentials. Not only will this help with the moving process but it will allow for new memories to be created in a new environment. Less clutter helps us visually feel more relaxed. So donate, give to someone who can use it or repurpose it. Don’t necessarily try to get financial gain – instead be a blessing and put a smile on someone’s face by giving without expecting something in return.

  256. After moving to places with distances as long as the nation, my family can appreciate a good deal when it comes to moving companies. The best thing for homeowners to do would be getting prices from at least 4 moving companies and comparing them. Using this knowledge will come as an advantage later when it comes to negotiating and looking for special offers or discounts. This makes sure that they cannot stick you with unexpected fees that you did not have to pay to begin with. And always read the fine print of your contract so you understand what will happen if they lose, damage, or destroy your property.

In the end, remember: knowledge is power! Knowing other companies’ prices and knowing the fine print can save you time, money, and property. Thus, making you a stronger and more efficient mover.

  257. As my family has moved distances as long as the nation, I understand and can appreciate the art of a good deal with a moving company. If the trip is not that far, family and friends are cheaper since many only have to be rewarded with food. If it is from another city, state, or nation, check out moving prices from about 4 companies and compare. This way, when you pick which one to use, that knowledge can serve as an advantage when it comes to deals and special offers. Also, read the fine print in your contact. Both actions make sure that you do not get stuck with extra, unnecessary fees and fines. You will understand fully what will happen in the case your property is lost, damaged, or destroyed.

In the end, remember: knowledge is power! Knowing your prices and contract will save you from many problems you might face, which then makes you a stronger, more efficient mover.

  258. The best way to save money when hiring a mover is to look around multiple different companies and comparing quotes. You can also try and pack as much as you can in your own vehicle to get a smaller truck that will be less expensive. A huge help be to declutter and get rid of any unnecessary items you do not use anymore.

  259. One tip for saving money when hiring a mover: Be prepared on moving day!!! The more prepared and organized you are the faster the move will go. Fewer hours for the movers results in reduced cost.
Being prepared encompasses a lot – from getting rid of the junk you have accumulated and no longer use reducing the household items for the movers to transport, to saving the closest possible parking spot for the moving truck, especially if you live in the city with limited parking or if your move is in the winter. If your move is in the winter, shovel the snow and ice out of the way before the movers get there! Make sure access to your home is clear. Being prepared also means having things you have packed yourself clearly labeled and ready for the movers to put in the truck. It means disassembling anything that needs to be disassembled for moving with all hardware taped to the item. Being prepared means sending kids and pets to a relative or friend’s house for the day so they are not in the way of the movers. The key to saving money when hiring a mover is to be prepared!

  260. When we moved, we got as many close family and friends involved as we could so that everything could be ready on moving day. I think that movers should allow an adequate amount of time to get things together and not feel anxiety from the lack of time during moving day.

  261. How to get the best price from moving company is to make sure you know the correct answers to their questions. No guessing at weight or size. You want to make sure you are giving them accurate information so the pricing is correct and you have no surprise costs.

  262. Some of the best advertising in the world is word of mouth! So ask your friends, your family, anyone you know. Even if they haven’t had to move recently, maybe they know someone who does! Getting first hand accounts of what the moving experience is like will help you make your decision on what movers to hire.

  263. A good way to save money on moving is to contract the most affordable yet reputable moving company. By doing so, you can get the most bang for your buck and you won’t have to worry about your personal materials getting lost or damaged.

  264. Thankfully I have only had to move once in my lifetime, and there are statistically ten more times to go. Moving is a big deal for many large families and living in New York, it can cost anywhere between $96-$150 an hour! There are many ways to save on long distance moving in order to get the best price possible from moving companies.

The best way to move if a person has a form of transportation such as a car, van, or truck, is to pack your belongings yourself and look for free moving boxes or storage containers in local stores and grocery markets. I am a very artsy person and would go around my neighborhood looking for boxes to create my designs or store art supplies and every corner I checked was a huge flattened or full box that can be assembled with just a bit of tape. Additionally, I understand the struggles with throwing away personal items, but it is important to get rid of, donate or give away things you don’t need to save space and time. I find it easy to throw away things if I just look at it and see whether or not it sparks an important memory. The less stuff you need to move the more money you will save!

I think another great way to save money is to transport lighter items by foot or bicycle and save the larger items for the professional movers which will surely save you time, and money if you can’t find any moving boxes. Another good tip is to schedule a moving time when there usually aren’t as many cars on the road, when business is low, or choose to move during the off-season. If none of these tips seems to work for you, we can stick to the standard methods of comparing movers prices, getting an estimate, and negotiating to get the best price for you! Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new home and moving with this company!

  265. When hiring a mover, the first thing I would do to save money is comapre many different prices from different companies. This would help me find the cheapest pricing for my budget. However, I would also check reviews and statistics about the company to make sure it is a trustworth company. If it is a moving company would may end up scratching up your furniture or perhaps breaking some of it on a minor scale (this has happened to my family), you’ll just have to pay more money for new furniture. A low price is important but so is a trustworthy company!

  266. I have moved within Ohio 5 times, within Florida 4 times, Arizona 5 times and Georgia 4 times! I am very familiar with moving across the entire country and getting quotes well in advance to ensure you’re moving as inexpensively as possible. My advice is to prepare and get as many competitive quotes as possible! Additionally, research simple topics on Google such as “moving companies”, “cheapest way to move across “, etc. This will definitely help you achieve the lowest moving costs!

  267. “If you’ve got to get it done, get it done right the first time.”

That’s a philosophy that I’ve always lived by. No matter how complicated or time consuming a task may be, I always make sure to put in the effort that it takes to succeed. Success comes from hard work, and it’s no different when you’re looking for a good deal from a moving company. Reading up on industry standards, comparing prices, timing your move well, and checking with trusted organizations like Find Movers Now will make all the difference in the cost and quality of your move.

  268. My one tip on how to get the best price from a moving company is to INFORM YOURSELF. This can be accomplished by first understanding how each company will charge you. This way you will be aware of hidden or additional charges that you can avoid. In addition, it’s always best to research different companies and obtain multiple quotes. Finally, learn from prior customer experiences through reviews. Learning from other customers experiences can save you from a bad one. Overall, do your homework, ask friends, neighbors, and community members for recommendations of companies with good reputations.

  269. One tip I have from moving just this last December is pack as much items as possible. This will take less time for the movers and it could possibly save money when you do some work and take your own items. I know my parents decided to take part in this and they saved a bit of time and money doing so!

  270. Moving is a huge change in someones life. It brings discomfort and even hassle along the way. However a way to cut down expenses and save a little money is to workout a price point for workers, compare quotes to other companies and ask for the help of friends and family!!!!

  271. Be a minimalist. Nobody need all that stuff. You don’t need dozens of plastic clothes wrapped around you. You don’t need to have 20 plates sitting in your house. I travelled to the US from Hong Kong with one suitcase, and honestly that is what I need for the rest of the year. Don’t be afraid to spend money on a product as long as it is long-lasting.
I have heard of a story from my professor a long time ago about negotiating with car sellers. He hired a seller from another town and drove him to the place and let him do the magic. He ended up spending half the price. My point is know what you are saying. At least pretend you know. Find someone in that field. What do you know? The cousin you were secretly making fun of could be your life saver and get you a good deal.

  272. The best way to receive the best price from a moving company is to do your own research. You always want to compare the pros and cons to each moving company. Also looking at reviews is important because a moving company so you know how they treat their customers from their point of view. Additionally, try moving in as much things as you can by yourself, this can actually help decrease the cost.

  273. panic…moving day is near.

    how…will I make this work
spent too much time perfecting this twerk
time well spent since moving ain’t lit
but I’m ’bout to catch a case if I don’t evict
my over twerked lass from this bum crash pad
moving on to greener pastures where the sun ain’t half bad
pull up or shut up so change is gonna come
pull out the MacBook to find number one
find movers now, find my hometown
find some prospects, time to inspect
find the expense, find its legit
‘cuz if the glove don’t fit then you must acquit
long story short, short story long
    overdue like whose reply ensues
the site we need to use to move
OK everyone its time for blue’s clues
find movers now (research, research, research, research)
find movers now (research, research, research, research)

  274. When we was moving me and my husband we ask all our friends to help us with furniture and everything. We start out with nothing now we still mainly get some thing for our apartment. We didn’t have no t.v. no beds now we got our kids a bed both of them and slowing working on our bedroom. This is why this scholarship is important to help me so I can become a nurse and doesn’t have worry about financially anymore with my kids. I’m attend University of Phoenix for healthcare service management. Further on my career planning on moving again to find land and big house.

  275. hit the gym so you don’t need movers!

  276. To save the most money on moving I believe that you need to be very resourceful. First, before you load anything up in vehicles and move it from one home to another, you should have everything in the home that you’re moving out of packed up into boxes to prepare for the actual move. Secondly, I believe that you should try to the best of your ability to move everything in one day to cut down on the amount of back and forth traveling that you have to do. Thirdly, I believe that you should contact all of the family that you can think of first before you start asking favors from any of your friends. And, finally, I believe that it is always a good practice to feed those who are willing to help you move as a token of your appreciation for them sacrificing the time out of their own schedules.

  277. The way I’ve found to make moving cheaper and easier is to reuse any sort of bags and boxes you already own to move your belongings. You can also use old boxes from your friends or from work to help make moving cheap and easier. Although boxes may not be the most expensive aspect of moving, the price can add up depending on how much stuff you own or how little you are willing to part with before moving. Overall, the boxes can become one of the most difficult things to pay for depending on how much you are taking with you. Not only is this more eco-friendly but it is also more wallet-friendly. So, find some old boxes or find some good friends who recently moved and don’t be afraid to ask around!

  278. There are many ways you can save money. First of all, you can get the best price from moving company by asking for discounts, promotions, and special offers. You’ll know if the movers offer any discounts or special deals from their websites, but it’s worth explicitly asking for a discount. Additionally, you should always be persistent and negotiate. Like all other services and resources, moving services are negotiable. For example, if you know how to play cards, you can also score a great deal on your move. Effective negotiation will help you get the best possible moving services at the best possible price and guarantee your smooth and successful relocation.

  279. Move in the winter!

  280. Pack everything yourself and only pack what you need!

  281. By getting my own boxes for packing up my things, I save money on movers. Movers I have used in the past will charge for boxes as part of the cost of moving materials. So, if I could have their excess boxes, I would go to a supermarket or a grocery store like Best Buy or Walmart and ask the workers in the back of the store. They will give them to me free of charge and I ended up saving myself from buying boxes, which actually decreases the overall cost of my transfer because I won’t have to be paid for boxes by the movers!

  282. Choose your moving date during off-peak season. May to September are usually with the highest demand for movers, therefore it would be more expensive and harder to find a good company. Also, weekdays tend to be less expensive than weekends.

  283. Try to sell your replaceable items and rebuy them when you get where you need to be!

  284. The best tip I have for finding a moving company, after moving 5 times in my life, is to look for family owned companies. While the bigger businesses may be easier to find and access, the family owned businesses tend to be more sensitive to your individual needs for your stuff. Also, in my experience they are oftentimes even cheaper than the bigger companies for an equal or better overall job.

  285. A good thing to remember is to have everything already packed in boxes and ready to go! This will save time and money!

  286. Having moved several times over the last decade, some of the best tips I have found are:
    1) Consolidate before packing! If you have not used items in the last 6 months (aside from seasonal clothing) decide if you truly need that item and consider selling or donating it. This will help reduce bulk of unnecessary items to pack.
    2) Move what you can yourself to to save on costs
    3) If you are using moving, compare quotes from several companies to find the best price for the services that you require.

  287. I have found that when moving its also important to pick the right time of the month! If you can, it will be cheaper to move on a day that is not the exact middle date of the month, or at the end of the month (30th -1st). On these days more people move, and companies hike up their prices! Another way to save money is book you rate far in advance, that way they can’t over charge you because they know you’re in a bind, and you’ll have more companies with open spots to choose from!

  288. I have only moved one time in my life but the strategy that we used to make the cost of moving less significant was to have a large garage sale before we moved. In doing so, not only were we able to make money from some of our old and useless stuff, but there was also less mass that the movers would need to haul, consequently minimizing the amount that we would need to pay.

  289. Simply ask them for a lower price!

  290. When I have needed to move & it was more than I could ask family & friends to help with – I have called at least 3 moving companies to get their best prices. I was prepared with addresses & amount of belongings that needed to be moved. I then asked LOTS of questions – like who provides what, who boxes, do cabinets need to be emptied, how many people are in the crew. I then read reviews. Sometimes you get what you pay for & a job well done may be worth a bit more to save you headaches! A mover that does not require file cabinets & such to be emptied saves LOTS of time! Movers that are so flexible will truly be part of your team during moves!

  291. The best way to get a lower price on moving is to simply communicate with the company. Ask about possible discounts, special offers, etc. Also, ask what additional fees will be included so that you can take care of those things yourself. If, for instance, the company will charge extra for furniture then it would benefit one to disassemble their own furniture. Overall, it’s best to know as much as possible about the company before hiring them. What are their average prices? Are they legitimate? And will they be willing to match the prices of their competitors?

  292. The best way to lower the budget on expensive moving prices is through negotiation. Everyone will have most likely done their research and planned out what company works best for them, but then they close the deal too soon. You might get a few good offers, but why not reach for the greatest deal. To negotiate with your moving company, ask for discounts, promotions, and special offers. Try to be flexible with what time of the season you want to move, save on extra services, ask to match or beat competitors’ prices, along with being persistent in asking for all of this. Each of these is a part of negotiation and will help any mover, near or far, get the best prices they need for their move.
